    Hi Guys,

I am still on the hunt for replacement interior. I pick the boat up from the shop this weekend. I will start to build the sun deck platform first and get that covered.

    I started a few Craig’s lists ads.

    The search continues!

Wow that is a bummer. Good luck sourcing new ones. Would you mind posting a pick of the bow area. Would love to see how the panels attach before I remove mine for new vinyl.

Look on the Great Lakes Skipper site for vinyl- I was at their store yesterday and they have material that came from MC. I would use 1/8" Masonite to make the patterns.

I'd take it to viper for sure. There are so many 205v hulls out there they could even work on two at once and use the other boat to make your pattern.

I know you want to get on the water asap but a new interior starting from scratch on a 150 hour boat isn't something you want to rush or cheap out on. Bad luck with the fire but the potential here is amazing provided insurance paid enough.

So Clipper, you bought the boat? Great opportunity for a beautiful custom interior since those years had bad vinyl. Hope you're successful in finding some bases to work with. Keep updated when you do....

I agreed to purchase the boat from my buddy a few days ago. We both agreed on a price that was good for both of us. His mechanic (also my friend) drove and brought the boat back to his shop so I can see it, fire it up and make boat noises. This will be the second time I have seen the boat. This time I was able to turn on the batteries and see the tach time. It was showing 488! Weird as I was told many times it had less that 150hrs on it. I did question this with the machanic. He said that it was from the key being left on to run the radio and the ECM would show 150+/- when the computer plugs into it. Hmmmmmm!? Little fishy to me!

              Any thoughts on this guys?

The boat looks great overall. A few scratches here and there. The rear transom area is a little faded. But over good. This boat would look awesome with a nice custom interior!

We will see. I have not declined the purchase or handed any funds yet. I am out of town till Tuesday. I will know more then!

Unless he left the engine idling to power the radio your mechanic would be incorrect. Hour meter only counts hours when engine is on and has no correlation to key position.

Could be that the engine was replaced and not the hour meter. The boat could have 488 hour on it between two engines...

My understanding has always been that if the key is in the On/Run position it is adding time to the hour meter. Turned to the left in the Acc position it does not addd time to the meter. Is this wrong?

Not for that generation. The hour meter only starts adding up when it reads an RPM reading greater than 0. At least, that's what I've heard on how the Medallion gauges work, never checked closely though.

I do believe on LS Motors the hour meter looks at reluctor wheel activity and MCX and RTP look at distributor activity or cam position sensor, I can’t remember now.

Some of the older stuff does work off the key switch.

There have to be a few salvaged boats out there!
That hull I believe was the longest running hull in MC history, there has to be salvage units out there with seat structures/bases to get.

Older boats often had this problem where the gauge ticked if it was powered, newer hour meters use a few different methods to detect operation - one of them is charging voltage ie key is on and voltage is greater than 12.6 meaning they'll tick if you leave the key on and plugged into a charger. Others use key + rpm which is common if the tach has the hour meter installed on it.

Either way get the hours pulled from the computer.

In regards to this boat - If you don't care to have it look "factory" your easy way to go would be to make the panels/bases etc. To do this you basically take paper and make templates including location of the screw holes, speakers etc. Then transfer to plywood and use a jig saw + sander to create the bases. You then need to source and shape foam. And then you can have it covered.

our similar year X9 with the medallion gauges only counts hours w/ the engine running.

Well, I have had no luck finding a used interior for my new to me X2. Title was signed today and it is officially mine. Got a great deal I think. Now it is time to rebuild the interior. I have called many many shops in my area (Nor-Cal). Most do not want to touch the interior without seat frames/panels and fabric to pattern. It’s going to be a tough job. I think I am up for the task to create the panels and foam. Then bring the boat to a shop to have all the panels covered.

I do believe I am going to make all the backing panels from HDPE. It will outlast any fabric that is applied to it. Plywood is so much easier but not sure that is the material of choice. I am a building contractor by day and restore airplanes as a hobby. I could easily produce aluminum panels but is still not the right material. I do have a few question that you guys might be able to answer.

                              1. What material thickness are you guys seeing the bottom cushion frame made? 1/4”-1/2”-etc?
                              2. What thickness is the sundeck backer panels?
                              3. I am seeing in photos of the X2 that there is a depression on the lower side of the engine cover. It looks like it is needed to cleared the throttle body. Does anyone have dimensions of this panel?

Since this X2 is the only one I have ever been in or even seen for that matter I am going into this blind with a stripped boat and lots of interior pics from the internet. Yes I could just drop it off at a shop for lots of $$$ and say call me when it’s done. Hell, that’s no fun!

I really appreciate the feedback you guys have already given me. I hope this to come out well and get my family on the lake this summer!

As others have suggested, a good shop like viper can likely build you an interior from scratch.
