  • New boat learning curve (xt22)

So still breaking in and getting used to the new boat (‘19 XT22), few things I’m noticing that would be good to get feedback from the group.

    1. Depth finder doesn’t work beyond a slow idle speed. Loses the signal. Is that normal? My old proStar worked well at speed, but that was an aftermarket unit i added.

    2. Boat lists significantly to the left. All ballasts are empty. Sitting empty, no passengers, etc. the left/port side of the boat is about 3-4 inches lower than the right. With people in, if i put the whole family on the starboard side it floats about level. (Picture attached tied to the dock). Dealer says batteries, amps, etc are on left so normal, any other opinions/experiences?

    3. Posted on another thread, but interested in people’s experiences getting the XT22 dialed in for free ski slalom at 34mph. Plate settings.

    4. Dockstar seems to work just ok. I can definitely back to the right, but that is always easy with a right turn inboard. Full left rudder, it basically backs up straight. Have others figured out techniques that work better? E.g. particular speed or approach to be able to back left?

No way that boat should sit like that. I would be pissed.

Have you verified that your ballast is empty when it's leaning like that? Or how about when both rear tanks are completely full and spitting water out the sides - that way you know they both have the same amount of weight. Does it still lean then?

I’m having the same issue on the depth finder. My xt22 does not list like that and we tend to have more gear on the port side. Seems bizarre. I can’t speak to the other items.

I think I have verified ballasts are empty. Run the pumps, nothing coming out. Can’t see an easy way to visually verify rear hard tanks are empty. Haven’t tried full tanks yet, will give that a shot this weekend.

I agree that it shouldn't be listing that much if both the tanks are empty. When the tanks are empty you should be able to see bubbles coming out of the water when running the pumps. You can add pump empty time in 30 second intervals with the hard buttons next to the screen.

My depth finder does that but also my lake is over 200’ often so it goes blank at that point too. Doesn’t list bad like your photo. I did notice I hit the fill on starboard tank while driving and it started to list. I would fill each rear tank and time how long it takes before it pumps out the side. I found my center tank wasn’t fully empty once.

For #1, I do find that is loses the reading more often than I would like. It was pretty unusable on the first software. The last couple of software updates improved it, but in deep water, it seems to lose it speed, but it does come back. Make sure you are on the December SW.

For #2, it is listing a bit much, and yes batteries and amps make a difference. If you absolutely don't have any other gear or equipment on the port side, then I would be examining your ballast for sure. Not much visually you can do, but just run the port on override for an extra 30 or 60 seconds to see if it makes a difference.

My depth finder works well! Don’t think I’ve ever noticed it not reading. As for the listing, mine does not do that. May be a bad pump. Try emptying that side 1 pump at a time and make sure you can hear the pump running. May have just filled but not emptied.

I have 3 batteries, 3 amps, and 2 50 pound subwoofer boxes on our port side and it doesnt list to that side anywhere near as bad as your picture. Definitely a ballast issue

Do you have a trailer or lift? Can you try draining the ballast again when you can see the bottom of the bottom of the boat with the water coming out?

What does your dealer say about that list? That looks wrong to me.

Short term, you could always order some LeadWake bags to even the boat out (plus they're good to have around to help balance thing sout when you're riding. But based on that picture there is definitely something wrong with the way the boat is listing.

There has to be water in the port ballast tank or possibly the bilge.....otherwise those must be really heavy towels.

When you are doing some testing on that list, make sure you fill all ballasts and ensure the gas tank is full as well and then see if you have the same list when all full. Not sure if the tank is centered on those, but doesn't hurt to check everything. I have a slight list on my X-23 (to the same side), but nothing like you are experiencing.
