‘18 x23 port side ballast issue

When filling all ballast, my port pump stop numerous times and I have changed the timer to 8mins. After about 7 restarts to 100% the water will finally full and start shooting out like starboard, but at about 1/3 the flow. I think either the pump is bad, over heating, or there is a clog somewhere. Dealer said they just did impeller change... anyone have any ideas what the issue is or what I can try next?

I have the same boat, and I'm dealing with the exact same thing except it is all three zones. Dealer just changed my impellers as well. They started the diagnosing by swapping out the PDM's saying they were bad and not "Ramping". That did not fix it.

Current thinking is the impellers they put in are the wrong ones and although they fit, they are somehow drawing too much friction in the pump and causing it to stop.

Seemed like some pumps would run for a 3 seconds and stop. Others would not start at all. Other times the screen looked like they were filling but only one of the 2 pumps was actually filling so the timer and water levels were way out of sync.

You could watch them trip on the engine diagnostics section under the PDM tabs.

Dealer came out to the lake yesterday to help me. He sprayed some lubricant into the pumps to help the impellers move a little easier. That did the trick and we had a great surfing afternoon. But that is not the long term solution. Working with my dealer this week to figure out what to do next.

I bought some green impellers... do you know which ones the dealer put in that may be incorrect?

Thanks. I put another green one in and used Vaseline as a lube... it worked perfect.. I wonder what the long term solution is since I’ll be back in the same spot once the lube disappears[emoji15]

I have a 2016 X23 and have a similar Port side fill issue that developed late last season and is still an issue. It fills at about half the rate the Starboard side does. The factory fill timing is set at 8 minutes. I have increased the Port to 12 minutes and it will fill but I am thinking there is a clog, impeller or other issue. I have visually inspected the pump impellers and they are the green ones and look fine. Any other suggestions before I take it to the dealer? Thanks!

Make sure they are both work. It is hard to tell With two pumps filling each tank- but if one of the motors is bad- it will take twice as long to fill. Put your hand on the pump while it is filling- each pump should vibrate- you should be able to feel a difference if one is not working. Happened to me twice.

So wanted to monitor the electrical as the problem persists... now, I am guessing it’s a bad pump after all.. I’m not an electrician but have a good idea how things work electronically, and this doesn’t appear normal or another simple issue.....thoughts?

Mine was throwing that fault as well but the pump was not bad. It was an impeller. The impeller was seizing in the housing and causing a fault. New correct impeller, problem gone.

Damn.. if I replace again, this will be third impeller... what color are you using? I am using the green ones currently. I was thinking there might be something in the housing causing the impeller to get a lot of friction, but I can’t feel anything abnormal, and I have been using a waterproof lubricant similar consistency as Vaseline. I am hoping is it something simple

I believe they put the orange ones in. I think orange is coming in all the new boats. Although I ran green for a long time without issue. Black was the major problem. For me anyway.

UPDATE:
So, I tried an orange impeller this weekend (thanks to Dennis(uplandbird)) for the recommendation. Got two perfect, non-stopped fills with it, then it started going back to its old tricks. It gets to 38, sometimes 70% before it shuts off and I have to restart the pump. I'm hoping my dealer is going to look at my PDM as a potential issue that Dennis suggested is possible, but running out of other ideas that could fix the problem. I think it is either the PDM or bad pump.... but bad pump would mean it would have he same issue emptying, and I don't have that issue. It empty's non stop every time.
