  • Winterize in heated garage?

This will be my first year winterizing my 08 x2. I have read a ton of info on the process and I think I have a pretty good idea on what to do. My question is if I plan to store my boat in a heated garage where the temp will stay above freezing all winter would I be safe to not add antifreeze and just drain everything?

How often do you lose power for more than a day?

I've kept my boat unwinterized and ready to use in a heated garage for about a decade... If I take a Christmas vacation I drain the block, exhaust, and heater core while no one is there.
      here comes the boss!

Your call, but the two competing voices will be (1) air doesn't freeze, vs (2) pink AF is cheap insurance and will get any potential pockets or chambers that may capture bits of water. Pink also acts as an anti-corrosive agent.

I followed the first line of thinking for many years with no issues. Still use it for late season/fall outings since our overnight temps drop below freezing by draining block, manifolds, trans cooler, heater core, strainer. Regardless, for hibernation I have been using pink for the past 5 years.

I am in group 2. For $50, including beer, why not have the peace of mind.

Without a question I would winterize.

What if the garage door gets accidentally left open overnight?

Winterize for sure. Not worth not doing it.

I store mine in a conditioned shop throughout the year. I purchased a Temp Stick which monitors the temperature and humidity every hour. If either rise or drop below the values I set I get a text alert. It uses a wifi connection and a AA battery which last about 6 months. It has a phone app so you can see trends, graphs, etc. and can at any time check the temperature.

We do this because my daughter and I make an effort to get out every month of the year.

If the boat gets its own garage, I'd do nothing. If the boat shares with a car (hence the garage door will be opening and closing semi-frequently) I'd drain it.

Ahh winter is in the air again. Too cheap to winterize in comparison to what happens if you don't and the unexpected happens.

In Montana you're not going to be going out for at least 3 months. Even in a heated garage just for the boat I would winterize it. Drain, flush with antifreeze, drain. I'm in a similar situation in Nebraska now and am planning on winterizing around the end of October.

When I lived in Texas I didn't winterize, but it also only dropped below 32 degrees one night a year.

Thanks for the info. I think I will just do the little extra work and add the pink stuff.
