  • Late model 6.0L MPI vs. 5.3L GDI Motors

    I've read good things about both the 6.0L MPI motor and the 5.3L GDI motor as of late but I'm looking for input from owners who have had both or have been on different boats with either of these motors.

    From what I've read and what is published by MC for stats, the 6.0L has a bit more HP/TQ but the 5.3L GDI is quieter, smoother, easier on fuel, less emissions, and less smell behind the boat from exhaust.

    I had the old 6.0 in my X20 and 5.3 in My G21
    Yes thE 5.3 was quieter , but it moved the Pig of a G with no effort.
    My new XT25 with have the 5.3. Looking forward to it.

      The power difference is not that noticeable but the 5.3 (that has lower #'s on the chart) is more responsive and gets it up quicker. The 5.3 is worth every penny of the upgrade due to low fuel burn rate and obviously less emissions which = much better surfing experience, along with better responsiveness.

        The 6.0 makes more peak power and torque, but the 5.3GDI makes more where it counts (2200-3200rpm).

          Having just spent the last three weeks hunting for a new boat, if you want a GDI engine, grab one now as there were many 2019 XT models with them. With the 6.0 now being standard, I think they will be harder to find sitting on a lot. When I did my practice build, the system said “3.87% of people choose this” when I hovered over the 5.3 GDI option.

            What everyone else is saying... 5.3 is an upgrade for a reason.

              There are several G’s at the club with the 6.0, 1 with the 5.3. 5.3 doesn’t feel any different than the 6.0, and burns significantly less fuel

                There was some confusion when the 2020 builds started. I had a dealer tell me that the only way to get the 5.3GDI was to also get the Saltwater Package. This is not true. While they are all closed loop cooling, you don't have to get the Saltwater Package. Count me as a 3.87 Percenter.

                  Love the 5.3. Makes my stereo a lot louder. Lol

                    I was wondering about that. You have a rough guestimate how much more quiet the 5.3GDI is over the 6.0 and 5.7MCX? I always heard that Fresh Air Exhaust was the best stereo upgrade for the money.

                      The 6.0 is louder, but a decent amount. I would say at least 30% louder than the 5.3

                        This is a positive with the new boat I was not anticipating but am pleased to hear about.

                          Considering an XT22 or XT23 and your comments about the motors confirms the bits I've read.

                          More to ponder!

                            I’m a big fan of the FAE but the transom straps on an XT22 might make that difficult.

                              For the 2018 and 2019 XT22 & XT23 series boats, the engine options were (do I have this right?):

                              5000 = 5.7L MPI 320hp

                              5500 = 5.3L GDI 365hp

                              6000 = 6.2L GDI 430hp

                              Meaning the 6.0L MPI was not offered in those years and now in 2020, essentially it replaces the 5.7L MPI motor (the old 5000)?
