Honestly, it’s one of the best boats on the market if you are looking for wakes and waves. One of the only boats to really blow my mind when we went shopping...enough for my wife to be on board with the upgrade.

It was the first year for the redesign of
The Xstar- so it has had some software and electrical kinks to work out, but mastercraft has addressed all of those through warranty and if you are buying a used one that is maintained, it should have all that done.

Only real “issue” that you overcome with a little adjustment is with the surf tabs. on these newer boats the tabs are getting very big and it wasn’t till 2020 when the actuators to deploy them got beefed up to handle the extra load. So, if you deploy the tab while moving, it doesn’t go as far as if you deploy it while at rest...you learn to deal
    With it, easy to overcome.

But, having 4,100 pounds of ballast and still having room for gear in the back, warming drawer, super easy to use software, and amazing wakes and waves.

Let me know if you want a 2018. It’s always for sale

I will agree with the the last post. I had a 2015 X23 with the 6.2 then upgraded to the X24 with the 7.4. They are two totally different waves. The X23 was a big step up from the X30, but the newer generation is better. I was able to get a deal on a used X24 with around 75 hours on it. There are some used ones out there. I am sure you will find the right boat

I have pretty limited experience in a 230, but, I think it is pretty safe to say that the X23 wave is going to be "different" but in my opinion in a very good way. It will be longer, more tuneable and have much more power at the back of the wave.

The sacrifice you will make with the X23 is going to be fuel consumption and running attitude. The X23 is a great surf boat, but it likes the fuel and it rides bow high when surfing.

Unfortunately, as good as the X23 is, it is not as good as the newer X22, Xstar, x24...where I feel like they solved those issues - where they run more bow down and get better mileage.

Many veterans here report similar surf waves on the X23 vs. X22. The X23 may need to be listed slightly to surf corner but that is easily done with crew or ballast/lead.

There are other comparison threads here to search out, but in my personal experience behind a Naughty G23, G21 vs MC X30, X10, 19 XStar, 19/20 X22 the MC Gen2 wave is more tunable and has way more length. MC towers are also best in class by a longshot. The G23 and G21 have tremendously tall waves which are a blast and powerful, but they are rather short in length.

The breakthrough for me on the latest MY MC XStar and X22 is that surf technique changed to allow riding from middle to back of wave, where the G’s you must stay mid to swim platform or will fall out.

Despite any concerns of older MY X23 value longevity, you would already be getting huge price-value on a purchase today. Also check here in TT classifieds, there are low hours X23’s and even an X22 at great pricing, if still available.

    San 230 Or X23

I currently own a 2018 SAN 230 an debating switching to mastercraft. I am looking at a 2018 x23 with the same hours as my 230. How would the surf wave compare? I know they discontinued the x23 but how close would it be to the new x22? I am just concerned about a discontinued boat losing value at an accelerated rate because it is no longer being made. Should I wait until a used x22 comes through the doors? What is the fuel consumption with both engine options per hour while surfing? Thanks for any replies.
