  • 2019 Xstar front ballast pump servicing????

Hello, have been inactive for tye winter, but have to ask about the front ballast pump servicing and more about relocating the pump to the engine compartment as the current location is an absolute nightmare for several reasons:
    1. One needs to service the pump —> change the imperller through the hatch on the floor that is tiny.
    2. When doing the service the 90degree Blue plastic elbow fitting will unscrew and the pump stsrts to leak as a result of this —> one needs to completely remove the pump from the compartment to be able to apply new marine sealent to the fittings —> this is tough job to say the least
    3. As the pump is belohardly above water level in its original location the front ballast fills by itself and what this does it turns the sealant that MC uses into chewing gum type soft gue which makes the pumps leak as the sealant does no longer act as a sealant.

So I have been thnking of relocating the pump with longer hoses to the port side of the tranny opposite to the mid jolt type ballast pump—> has someone already done this ? —> There are a couple of ways to do this.
    1. Get longer hoses and an extension to the wiring harness
    2. Also it might be possible to swap the mid tank water intake with the same type as is used for the rear ballast tanks which have 2 pumps attached to one intake shut off manifold —> this would make the hose routimg easier as well, but as I am not at the boat currently not sure whether the intake manifold is easily accessible.

Having also the front tank ballast pump in the rear where all the other pumps are located would make the servicing and general access to the front pump super easy.

I do not understand how is it possible that MC has done such an awful job with the placement of one of the main service locations that one needs to be able to do easily?

Anyone else having same issues with this?

I hope they will change this as it is such a simple improvement at the factory....

Where can I buy that specific hose that MC uses for the high speed ballast?

That looks like a PITA. if it’s not too much trouble, could you grab a better pic of the pump label?

Be careful on extending wiring. Those draw 30 amps continuous with 50 amp fuses. You don’t want any voltage drop because they’re only fast fill at 13.7 volts or higher. Need bigger gauge to run longer wiring. Hose can be found at wake makers or dealer. I’ve been told to seal with blue devil pipe sealant.

Oh yeah- I have two pumps in there to service...not fun.

I thought about moving it over to where I can access it from under the observers seat, I have a panel I could modify to get easy access under the floor there.

Have not done it, but it would save long wire and tubing runs. I know my local dealer uses “life caulk” on the threads.

              This!!

I was going to say that he is lucky he didn't have a 2018 with dual pumps for the front tank!

I had to change both fronts on a 2018 (not mine). It certainly wasn't fun, but managed to get them without pulling the pumps.

As for moving them- I think you'd find it is more hassle than its worth. I'd be most worried about what wakejunkie mentioned. Those fast fill circuits are already pushing close to amperage max on the circuits. Extending that wire, and adding connectors/splices/etc., is going to bump that up higher, and you might find yourself tripping the breaker on that pump.

I think if I was going to do it, i'd do it behind the trash can in the observer compartment. The fast fill relays are right there, so no cutting or splicing wires. It wouldn't be the easiest place to service it, but would be a whole lot easier than the current location.
