There are certainly conditions in which depth sounding technology doesn't work well but sitting at idle in 10' of water or surfing at 11 mph in 40' on a hard bottom (my most recent issue) are not among them. Mastercraft is better than this. This is a critical piece of instrumentation on which we rely to keep our substantial investment damage-free (not to mention our passengers safe). The bar for what's "normal" needs to be raised.
My dad has three huge expensive Hummingbird GPS fish finding, side & down imaging, etc. etc. machines on his fishing boat.. but can it tell you the depth when moving over 5mph? Hell no, apparently. They are all connected to one transducer, yet all three typically have different depth values, one is super sporadic than the others often reading 1000ft+ or something crazy. Basically all we can do is hope future updates solve the issues. This just doesn't seem acceptable to me.

It’s pretty sad when you spend upwards of $200k for a boat and you have to have your son hop off of the boat as you drift up to the sand bar to check water depth so you don’t tear your running gear up in the sand. This seems like a pretty big liability for MC. It’s definitely a safety issue for the owners. I wonder how many Ferrari owners would accept having a car capable of 200mph with no working seat belts.

Very disappointing indeed. I would guess mine works less than 20% of the time, regardless of speed and water depth. My 2015 X10 worked 95% of the time. Exact same lake and same spots. The electronics in mine seem very buggy, clock frequently goes out and the maps randomly stop working on the top screen.

The depth finder on my 2018 xt21 wasn't working when i bought it, the dealer did fix it finally, don't know what the fix was though. It works about 80 percent of the time, seems to struggle at higher speeds.

I didn’t even get into those issues. Mine does the same but I feel like maybe these are bugs that can be fixed with a software update. When playing music my center screen will show the song that played 20 minutes ago, maps occasionally works and 3 weeks ago I had 2 complete freeze ups on my center (gauge) screen.

Are these general electrical/software issues really this common? What feedback are you getting from your dealers?

Mine was only reading while at idle or stopped but was in for service the other day and they replaced it it works fine now. I was also told my old one was not reading correctly due to they know what depth the water test was versus what I was reading.

                Mine's now back perfect.

                  What year is your boat?

From what I’m hearing, it has to do with the dual screen boats?

Mine's 2016 X23 single screen but doing the exact same thing everyone was talking about.

I am confident my dealer can fix it no problem because they are awesome but just wish I could figure out how to do it on my own...its a pride thing!

I’m going to call my dealer today and have them order me a new depth finder. I’ll post my results when I get it done

I think they called it a biducer.

Are you planning to pay for this out of pocket or is your dealer attempting a warranty claim? The reason I ask is that my dealer said they went down this road with a different customer, including providing videos of the depth reading cutting in and out, only to have MC deny the warranty claim because the behavior was normal. Keep us posted for sure.

My dealer told me today he's still waiting for a response from MC re: my depth finder. We shall see...

I paid for it when I purchased the boat as far as I’m concerned. I’m going to attempt to have it warrantied. If they refuse then I’ll sort it out from there.
