EE- I talked to Jason at Stancraft, he suggested putting a wye splitter on the heater hoses to supply and return the coolant to run a second heater. He mentioned that in their custom wood boats (that run ilmores) they run up to 4 heater cores to make sure all passengers get good heat. He thinks it more about the distance the heater air has to travel in the tube than it does the btu output. He suggested adding a second heater under the observer seat for that side of the boat.

Wow, 4 heaters?! His opinion on the distance from the heater core being more important than the BTU output makes sense. I can easily tell the air is warmer at the helm compared to the other tubes.

After leaving several messages at Maradyne (and no one calling me back), I finally got to someone there and he couldn’t tell me anything about the Maradyne heater in MasterCrafts. I was not impressed by any of this. But he did think the 9” unit I have is rated at 26,000 BTUs and to be clear, I’m not wanting more fan volume, I’m looking for more heat. Fan volume is fine.

I called and left a message at HeaterCraft and a nice gent called me back after about 20 minutes. Very informative and he mentioned their 16” heaters have dual fans spun by one motor made in Italy, not China like Maradyne. HeaterCraft guy was not knocking Maradyne, just informing me. Overall, he said the Chinese motors have been burning out after a year or two.

So, I’ve ordered a 16” HeaterCraft heater, model: 340 Elite Unit (heater only), which is rated at 40,000 BTUs. I measured under the helm and should have plenty of room. Just hook the fan wires up and re-plumb the coolant inlet/outlet and should be good. I’ll start a new thread and do a compare once the HeaterCraft unit shows up.

So their 340 unit looks like it has 4 x 3” outlets and the stock heater has 4 x 2” outlets. Did you order reducers to adapt the heater hose? They have pictures of a unit that is 40k btu with 4x2” outlets...that’s what I’m interested to see if I can get.

When I talked to the gent at HeaterCraft, he said the 340 Elite would be the unit I want. Yes, the outlets are 3" diameter and my hoses are 2" diameter so I will need to get some reducers.

What model did you see that was 40k BTU and had four 2" outlets? Their website sucks and he did mention it sucks and it will be enhanced soon-

I am just going off a picture - which is why I need to talk to them too.

But they basically have two different heaters - the 200/500 which is the 28k BTU; and the 300/400 which is the 40k BTU. If you look under the "300/400 commercial cabin heaters" the picture is of a product is what looks to be a 4 x 2" outlet...but that is not an option in the drop down menu.

If you're looking to part with the heater you're removing, I'd be interested.

As long as the new heater works, I do plan on selling the Maradyne unit. I'll PM you once the new one is in.

I talked to Steve from HeaterCraft today and asked him about the 240 COM (200/500) unit. That one does have four 2" outlets but it only produces 28k BTUs despite their website stating 40k BTUs. So, the 340 unit I ordered is the correct one. I will need to get 3" to 2" adapters/reducers but it looks like Home Depot has some for about $7/each.

I replaced the factory heater core in my ‘15 X30 with the 300 series from Heatercraft - much better heat output. I think you’ll be pleased.

                          Next question:

Does the Maradyne blower fan fit on the heatercraft housing? or do you need to order a new fan as well?

I replaced the blower along with the core/housing - so can’t accurately answer that.

I haven’t received the new heater yet. HeaterCraft said 2-4 weeks for shipping!

I’ll post once it get it and install it-
