2007 Xstar PWT series tower question

Hey Guys, Just bought a 2007 Xstar. It is the PWT version. When I bought it last week the guy told me that he had the braces and I just needed to put them on. I tried to install them today but the top tube mounts are to small. The Tube diameter on my tower is close to 2.85".. I think that the PWT must have a larger diameter tube. Is that correct ? If so anyone have a part number (if still available) on the correct top clamps I need to get. The tower just seems like it needs a brace and I do not want to see any welds cracking.
This is just a long list of issues... Freaking Ballast gauges are next hahaha

I think all the '07 towers were the same diameter. PWT Star was different mostly in graphics afaik.

Post some pics. The '05 and '06 towers were different and may have been a smaller diameter. It may be that you don't have the correct tower braces and hardware. And may explain why previous owner didn't install them.

Got it, I did a bunch more looking on this site and came up with a few answers I think. Looks like I might need P/N 554928S I have P/N 554930S that does not fit an 07 xstar for sure. I did look online and do not seem to find any available sources to buy....Anybody have any pictures of the mounting that the 07 xstar has. I might just make something if nothing is available. Here is a picture of what I have

You have 2 7/8" diameter tube on your tower.

Same as an X80 or Maristar 280. Also the same as my 2005 XStar.

All other MC models from this era use smaller diameter tube.

If his tower is the same diameter as an 05/06 xstar, does he even need the braces?

Most say the braces are needed.

I do not have braces on mine and haven't had problems yet. But if I can find braces someday, I'll pick them up.

IIRC tower braces were made for zft3 07-11 only

OP has 2007 XStar, so he should add braces if he has them.

See if someone can machine the mounts that you have to 2 7/8". It may be your best bet.

I have the smaller diameter ZFT3 tower on my X1. There was a weld crack when I bought the boat (as well as gel coat cracking around the bases). I would be awfully surprised if the larger tube wasn't prone to the same issues.

There are a number of old threads that confirm PN 554930S doesn't fit the X Star. Do the braces fit aside from the top tube? I wonder if the other dimensions are the same across the board.

Agree with Ironhorse. Take it to a machine shop. Removing the tube isn't terribly difficult. Could take both in and have them make you mounts. You might get lucky and find a tower being parted out. Otherwise PN 554928S seems to be hard to find and will run $700+. A shop should be able to do this for much less.

Thanks for the help, I Think I will just have to make them. Funny thing is... I do own a machine shop. If I modify these existing ones to the 2-7/8 it take all the wall thickness of the brace. I may make a run of them if anyone might be interested let me know... only the top tube brace with 2-7/8.
