  • SUP Stand Up Paddle Boards

We are building a lake house and I am looking to add Paddle Boards to the toy chest. I would like to hear feedback on what you might have used and liked (or not liked). If anyone has a good source, I am open to suggestions as well.

The longer and wider it is, the more use it will get, especially from the gobs of visitors you are about to enjoy. If you later find that you really enjoy the sport there are faster "narrower" boards to look at.

    Congrats on the lake house.
Being on the water is best, but when I'm not on the water I'm on TT.

Our friends bought one two years ago. Used it a lot for about a month. It now lives in the garage and never sees the water. They just got board with it. Everyone learned to use it quickly, and the novelty faded. Watch craig's list and such - surely they are not the only people who go bored on their board.

I've got 2 SUP ATX that are made here in Texas. I abuse the heck out of them, and the sit out on out jet ski lift, after spending a year on the deck of my parents cruiser in the CA sun. Highly recommend them

Black Friday at Menards last year…$300 each + $100 store credit. They are not super high end but they work great for the kids and me and my wife.
sigpic …my escape is to just get in a boat and disappear on the water.

I have learned that some boards are more susceptible to the impacts of the harsh sun than others, so when you hear of a board that can take it like the one Aric mentions, that would be a good brand to go for!

Thanks for the replys. My wife likes the idea of the inflatable (higher end ones), but sun and durability concerns me with those. I will look at the SUP ATX ones in more detail. I saw them on a search prior to posting this thread and they look like they are decently priced for an epoxy board.

Steve-O, I am biased - my lake house neighbor is a rep for Kahuna Paddleboards (http://kahunapaddleboards.com/en/) and I own 4 of them and have access to an unlimted supply.

                    My $0.02
                    - Get two or more, its fun, but way more fun with company, like your boat!
                    - The inflatable ones are great for kids, newbies! I don't use mine for portability and don't really find it practical in my case, I just strap my boards on the roof racks - de/inflating seems like a huge pain.
                    - The Kahuna iSUP (inflatables) are near indestructible! and not built for speed by any stretch
                    - Get comfortable with how you like to use one and get one purpose built for you to increase your enjoyment - you are paying the bills afterall!

I'm with MC25, I've had a couple SUP ATX boards and they are great, especially for the price. I've always even managed to find them used for even cheaper, which helps me not feel so bad when they get dinged up. Not sure if you're close to the ocean or not but currently I have an older 10'6" tri-fin SUP ATX that can perform double duty for me - glides nicely around the local lake but can also perform well in our small Texas Gulf surf.

BIC is also good for us

Agree get 2, better with someone. However also agree they are neat at 1st then just lay around until someone new stops in and wants to try them.
Both were cheaper on ebay, but some marines have demo's and rental's for sale.
Saw the same BICs we have at Dick's for a fair price.
1 of them can be used for windsurfing too which I still need a cheap sail set up. I think it will be great for those windy days and give it new life.
BICs hard plastic like, take a beaten. Go big, family members need the largest since they need the extra size.
                          GLW getting them.
