I am in the market for an Air Chair or Sky Ski. There is an air chair max jump 15 for sale in my area and I was wondering if that would be a good one to start on. I know absolutely nothing on them so I was wondering if y'all could shed light on a good one to look for and if there is a certain brand that is better in one way than another. Also, I saw one with a shock the other day, is that something that is nice to have or is it not necessary?

you want to focus on something that can be upgraded, most skis that are not original builds from 30 years ago are upgradeable. One beautiful thing is all the parts from different manufactures have remained interchangeable. Most people have "Frankenskis" with some air chair parts, some sky ski parts, some xair parts and other manufacturers and after market parts too.
Absolute best recommendation is to find someone to ski with before you buy. Help you learn and learn about the gear too.

Not sure what a Max Jump 15 is. Either Sky Ski or Air Chair that is not more than about 10 years old, and in good condition, should work to get you started. Just know going in that you will likely become addicted and want to start upgrading. Unless you have a bad back, the shock tower is unnecessary and only makes the ski heavier.

Want to throw it out there to make sure you have considered a wakefoil before you jump into the air chair world. We had an air chair growing up (90s) and that thing was unforgiveable and every crash was painful since you were strapped in and would take the water flat on your chest/face area every time. 2 years ago I tried a wakefoil and was blown away by the amount of control I have on that compared to an air chair. The danger is there while learning since you aren't attached to the board and you need to make sure you don't fall onto the foil, but I feel much safer on the foil vs. air chair of old.

Also, I feel much safer strapped to a foil in a crash than trying to dodge it when I fall.
