  • Wakesurf ballast for a x-star 2002

I am having a hard time weighting down 2002 x-star for wakesurfing. Does anybody know what weight combination will give the best wave for this boat.

Here's my solo setup with one driver and 0 passengers.

I run a 600lb bag in the walkwayup front(wakeboard with it there as well, my 750lb bag filled in the rear v-drive compartment. Kicks perfect for me to ride ropeless on the driver side as I am goofy footed. 9.5mph.

I have added 3-4 people back there and it got HUGE! but the rear end rub rail was close to the water for sure. Make sure you have good driver.

I will get some pics when the weather warms

I have the same hull with a 2006 X-1 and cannot get the starboard side to clean up. The port side for me is great with the ballast listed previously. I am thinking that it may be my prop. Any ideas?

Here is my port with 750lbs in the port locker, 350lbs in the ski locker and 200lbs of kids in the port seats. I can easily free surf on my red woody. I'm with swat guy. I now have 350lbs of lead in the front/port and when I get 2 or 3 people it is huge and long. Don't have any goofy foot so can't tell you about the starboard side.

The best part of surfing Starboard side is you already have the weight of the driver to add to the ballast on that side....the first two hundred pounds on the port side usually just counterweights the driver...I am lucky enough to ride goofy and why not set the boat up for me!!!
          Selfish???? Absolutely!

Prop does help a little with the surf wake. The starboard side does tend to be a little more finicky, but I have no problem at al getting a great curl with the above mentioned setup. Maybe try speeding up or down from 9-10mph Could be a speedo thing where you are not really going the speed you think.

How do you have your boat weighted Geormy?

Thank you for all the input. It really helped get past some of the learning curve. I went with a bunch of people and we had a good chance to mess with the weight. Our best results so far: 750lb in port locker. 350lb in ski locker (full capacity). About 700lb of people from glove box to port locker. About 400lb of people on port side of open bow. Our speedo is off and reads about 3 mph faster then actual speed. So I do not know the actual speed I was going. I estimate in the 10 mph area. If you have any more suggestions please let me know.

Also I put a check valve on my bildge pump line so water will not enter the bildge when I surf on the starboard side. Does anyone else feel like they had to do this? Maybe that is why people are having a different starboard wave.
