  • Wakesurfing fun???

I have watched many videos of wakesurfing. I am trying to decide if it truly is as fun as people have made it to be. I already own a bunch of ballast bags and have a 94 maristar but would need to buy a board and some sort of surf gate, but would like to know people's true feeling. I also am in an area where there is a lot of wind chop so I can't always wakeboard.

Wakesurfing is the best. Any water conditions, with any number of people in the boat. Not to mention its next to impossible to get hurt, and its a real slow cruising speed making it enjoyable for everyone in the boat.

It just seems like it would get boring fast

Build a FakeGate for $30 using this forum's prototypes, and buy a used board for $200 or less. It really is the easiest thing that you'll ever do on water.

Once you can ride without the rope try to teach yourself some tricks to keep it interesting.

I don't mean to be captain obvious here but can't you try it out on someone else's boat to see if you like it?

The major benefit for me is something to do when the water is rough. It is also pretty easy and painless to teach new people.

It does. It's a lot of effort to get the wake just to get sick of it after a few times. Once I got a few tricks down I got bored with it. But some people love it so to each his own.

I find it not that exciting, however the wife enjoys it. It does give you something to do when it's too rough for the real watersports (just kidding surfers). I bought the hyperlite broadcast figuring it would be a good starter board. I'm not into it enough to spend big money upgrading to a better board.

It gets boring fast. No way around that. But it's something to do when the water is too rough for wakeboarding, or if you're worn out from wakeboarding. For us, it is also something to do with kids since my boys and nephews are a little young for wakeboarding right now. My oldest nephew is 7 and he's slowly getting into wakeboarding. But for my 3 and 1yr old, I can surf with them to get them involved. And before anyone suggests it, I refuse to get a tube.

                        - I'd rather be SWERVING!

I only slalom and surf, because wakeboarding was just never any fun to me. Surfing lets me use the boat during the busy hours, and it seems that friends have a lot of fun watching it too. If it gets boring, then push yourself to do new tricks. If it's hard to get the right wake, then either use this forum for suggestions on your boat, or visit the "For Sale" section. I was surfing behind a DD for years, and that was fun too when properly weighted. IMHO

I am in same spot as OP.

To be honest I have not seen a person yet in our area wakesurf!! I think we would be the first on our lake to try it. Yes there is lots of fishing on our lake but there is a hand full of ski boats but like I said- haven't seen anyone surf.

1.) Almost everyone can do it in any water condition. Great way to get family and friends involved and way cheaper in regards to gas consumption.

2.) Its always been fun but its WAY better on a dedicated/purpose built wake surf boat.
