Posted earlier looking for wakesurfing tips. I appreciate all of the suggestions. I struggled to surf ropeless behind my NXT22. Although I'm not a great surfer I can go ropeless on a friends boat. My kids and wife can surf ropeless easily, I just couldn't keep in the wave.
Today, for the first time I found the combination that made surfing ropeless easy. Could stay up as long as I wanted.
1. I am 6'0 200
2. Tabs 0-5-65
A. 0-5-65 was my favorite setup but was able to surf 0-10-90 as well.
3. Speed - 10.8
4. Extra Ballast - I have Rogue Fitness bags filled with sand. (Two 150 pound capacity bags and two 100 pound capacity bags.) They are super strong and do not leak. Created for cross training and to be dropped and thrown around. I put 125 pounds in two bags and placed in each rear storage compartment. They fit well. I put 75 pounds in the other two and put one in each of the front storage compartments.
5. Only three people in the boat. 10 year old - 90 pounds and 15 year old 130 pounds.
I had tried to ride with this ballast/passenger set up several times changing speeds and tabs to every combination possible with no luck. What I changed today was the board. I had tried
1. Liquid Force Rocket - 5'0" - No chance. Couldn't stay in wave at all
2. Liquid Force Rocket - 5'4" - A little better. Could ride ropeless for a few seconds but it was a battle
3. Liquid Force Keen - Skim style board. Could stay up the longest on this board but was still a battle and one mistake sent me out the back
4. Hyperlite 5'9" Board. First time up I could ride as long as I wanted and had total control. I don't know how it is for others but this board is awesome for me. It is a big board and probably not great for experts and doing tricks but that's not my world. I was able to move up and down the wave and save it when I got to the back of the wave.
Hope this helps
