  • Raise Platform

Hi, I was considering raising my swim platform and was thinking about using rectangle aluminum tube. The platform brackets are 3" wide by 21" long so I was going to buy 2" X 3" tube and place it between the platform and brackets. Will a 2" lift suffice to reduce the platform's impact on the surf wave? Any other considerations I should be aware of?

    Thanks

I used 2” x 3” 6061 hollow rectangular section. Drilled thru holes and used longer #12 sheet metal screws into my fiberglass platform.

I did this 2 seasons ago to provide clearance for a tab project so I have no idea the individual impact of just raising the platform. It has been stable over the past few seasons and was cheap/straight forward.

Thanks. do you recall specifically what length screws? 2.5" ish?

The original screws were 1”, so I logically thought 3” screws would be sufficient for the 2” additional height. However I found 3” to be too short and ended up with 3.5”.

I also found that some of the holes were sloppy so I ended up filling them all with epoxy and re-drilling.

I recall someone else doing the same overall project on a different model and found that shifting the platform fore/aft was required given the clearance to the hull. I did not find that to be an issue for me but it would only slightly complicate mounting.

Excellent, thanks. Yeah, I had figured on maybe needing to fill the holes or something to that effect.

Did the same thing to mine before I added GSA - at which point I switched to their raised platform brackets to get a full 4”.

On my 45 I used some Iroko (cheaper alternative to teak) to build mine up after I had some screws back out. Raised it up 3-7/8". Made a nice difference in our wave. However, did come with a draw-back that without ballast on board, the boat is for sure louder than before without the platform pushing the exhaust more into the water. Didn't notice any difference in CO levels. Would benefit from a FAE I think, perhaps a winter project. For sure helped with the surf wake however was improved with less drag, allowing for a cleaner face. The platform went from being 6 inches under water when fully ballasted to just barely. Less stress on the platform itself, etc. Easy and quick off season, or even mid-season upgrade.

Old thread but wondering if OP did this, and how it turned out? I think it would have a positive affect on the wave face, but then again wouldn't MC do it if that were the case?

Since CO is odorless, of course you wouldn't notice any difference, not until you lose consciousness

I did do this on my last boat and while it helped with the wave face I would not call it transformative. It was easy enough and cheap enough though that I'd do it again if needed.

I have a 2007 X2 5.7 MCX that has a relatively quiet exhaust right now. Is raising the swim step up 2 inches going to be a lot louder?
When we I was surfing last summer I noticed the water coming off the corner of the boat going right up into the bottom of the swim step. Seems like a lot of water pressure pushing up on the swim step. I feel like raising the swim step up a couple inches would help take some pressure off and maybe clean up our wave a little. But I don’t really want a loud exhaust.
Any more thoughts on this subject?

I had a 2006 X30 with the MCX. I installed the raised platform brackets from GSA (4") and didn't notice any change in noise level. I'm with you- the quieter the better!

I raised mine about 2" and not change in sound.

Thanks guys. That is what I was hoping to hear. I’m doing 2 inches.
