  • Just bought a 89 prostar and someone painted the swim platform! I have started sanding today( very tedious) with the small hand sander I have. My question is how do I take it off? It seems to be wedged in between the bracket and the tow hooks on the back. Three of the screws are gone except for one that is rusted in the hole. Any help is appreciated

Was the platform black and the boat from the Atlanta area? If so, that boat has been the subject of a few posts on here. Glad she's in the hands of someone who knows you don't paint teak.

            • TMCNo1 - I went through your threads and was unable to find your refinishing teak thread. When you get a chance, can you send me the link to your refinishing teak thread? Thank you very much!

                    • Has anyone ever sand blasted their platform? I want to take it back to bare wood and oil it properly. I know sanding is the usual method but it doesn't allow you to get right into the tight corners and cracks.
Looking in to it, soda blasting seems to be recommended for wood as it's less aggressive as abrasives used for metal.
Would there be anything against doing this rather than sanding?

                      • Don't know about "Soda Blasting" but I would not blast anything that's wood. The soft between the grain scares me because once it's gone...it stays gone. I cleaned mine with the three step Starbrite system and it turned out great.

                        • I have pressure washed mine in the past and then sanded once it dried completely. It really helps with the tight areas that start to get black.

I did that too, but be careful not to concentrate the blast in one area too long. Try it on a piece of wood and you'll see why.
