  • New Gel Coat

I'd like to get a fresh look my redoing the exterior color of the hull. Good or bad idea? Anyone done this before? Photos would be appreciated! Can you apply a new gel coat? Is that even possible?

Yes you can do it. There is a guy on the mastercraft project which is a group on Facebook. He had black sprayed on his S&S and spent countless hours sanding, buffing and polishing to a beautiful finish. There is not a big write up but there are progress pictures.

^^^ what zs says...lot's of sanding... if your hull is in nice shape a wrap may be an easier alternative.

Have you looked into getting a custom wrap done? Seems like that would be a less costly option and takes out some risk involved with a permanent choice of new gel coat. It can be done, and done well.

I just think there are better options...unless your boat is purple

Here's an interesting example of an update to modernize.
