  • Ceramic coating

I was thinking of getting my boat ceramic coated like I have done to all my cars. Wondering if anyone has done it to there boat? Not sure if it is good or bad for the gel coat. Any info would help. Thanks in advance.

Search ceramic in this forum and you will get a few threads. Here’s one as an example. Seems people that have done it have been happy with the result.

Awesome. Thank you for that. New to the forum, I guess I should have researched the topic first.

Did it this year, super happy with the results. It still water spots but they just wipe right off. I did my own, prep work is the key and is the longest part of the procedure.

Even after two seasons, a ceramic treated boat is way easier to maintain and wipe down despite hard water conditions.

second season with GTechiq...boat just wipes clean with damp micro fiber cloth, no soap needed. Scum line comes right off, even dock rub. Pretty happy...shines as well as if I used boat candy!

Looking at doing mine and have some questions. GT has several products. Is it the serum light that I need as the base coat?

For those DIY applications I know they say cleaning is key. Is everyone just giving it a good wax free wash or should I do an acetone wipe and dry before applying?

I recommend a degreaser/wax remover for paint application. You can find them in the paint section of an auto parts store. Do all the prep and buffing to make the shine and depth exactly how you want it to look. Then wipe boat down with wax remover and start ceramic coating.

What brand of ceramic coating is best for a DIY application?

I have used Liquid Armor on my last row boats. As in all other posts, prep work is the key and takes the longest time. liquid armor is very easy to apply and remove. I have read other brands tend to streak if not removed properly.

I just did mu new Xstar with a Gyeon Q2R Gelcoat. It was a super easy application like probably most of the other ceramic coating products. Degreased it first with a degreasing soap and then used a Gyeon degreasing solution prior to putting on the coating. My detailer buddy highly recommended the Qyeon products so I decided to try it out.
