  • Value Tower Speakers

I need some great value speakers for my tower. I have an '03 mastercraft x2 (205v). My main goal is to be able to hear them while wakeboarding, so I know I will probably need HLCD speakers. I currently have (4) Polk Audio tower speakers. They shut off whenever I turn the volume up loud enough to hear while wakeboarding. I would like to stay in the sub $600 range. I am also open to buying from TT if anyone here is selling some.

Find a set of used wet sounds speakers. Couple that with a nice amp from either wet sounds or kicker or something similar. Make sure that you have enough power from the amp to actually push the speakers.

2nd the amp power being super important. I do have kickers on my tower, but have preferred the 2x2 6.5s over the single 8's I have currently.

I think the rule of 3's for stereos back in the day was...... There are 3 basic choices when buying new or updating a stereo system. Good, loud and cheap. The only problem is that you only get to pick 2. You can have good and loud but it won't be cheap. You can have loud and cheap but it won't be good and lastly you can have good and cheap but it won't be loud. There are trade offs with everything and from what I've seen lately with marine stereo gear is that none of them are going to be cheap.

          Kicker KMS674C HLCD
          Kicker KMTED pods
          Kicker KMA6004 amp

About $1130 retail. You will be hard pressed to find a better value system. Solid build quality, 3 yr warranty. Downside, smaller HLCDs, like a 6.5", can be a little rough on the ears close in. Larger HLCDs will yeild better sound quality, but comes with a higher price.

So the first would be loud and cheap but not good and the second would be loud and good but not cheap. At $1130 none of them are really cheap..... ;-)

Ummm, i layed out an entire package from drivers, to pods to amp to power it that retails for $1130. The drivers and pods are a little over $700. So close to the OP's budget. Solid build quality and come with the 3 year warranty. So yeah, the KMS674 are "good". The tradeoff is sould quality, but only because its a 6.5" HLCD.

I don't think you'll beat that for the price buying new components.

The only other possible option would be to find a pretty good deal on some used speakers and amp. If you found someone upgrading to larger tower speakers and could get 4 JL M770 series 7.7 inch speakers and pods. But even used, you may be hard pressed to find those in your budget. I do agree that you really likely do need a new amp.

i.e. Cheap. That said I would agree, this is a good budget (cheap) option.

Exactly, not good unless you like your tunes to be "a little rough on the ears".

Larger HLCDs will yield better (good) sound quality, but comes with a higher price.
                  Exactly, Not cheap but good.

Thank you for making my case..... :-) (I'm joking with you here, please don't take offense) Please don't be upset or take this so seriously. I think the recommendations you made are very valid and reflect the goal of the OP. The rule of 3's pretty much is a "fun" way of looking at things. I'm not criticizing your recommendations or "calling your baby ugly" and I'll make sure I don't walk you your lawn.

IMO all stereo gear has gotten very expensive over the last 4 years. Try to do the same set up in JL Audio and you'll spend at least $500 more. I just looked at the M6-880s on Crutchfield and they're $1500, I paid $1100 in 2019. A JL 400/4 is $650 now. That's a good $150 more than in 2019. To be honest that has been what's stopped me from adding bow speakers to my boat.

Disclaimer.... None of the comments here were meant as some kind of attack on the very valid recommendations of MLA. He obviously has deep technical skills and experience with stereos.
