  • Tower Stereo. JL 880s. Aluminum Cans?

    My Boat - 2012 Mastercraft X25 w/ ZFT4 Tower

I have a pair of 770s attached to my ZTF4 tower now, if I mount the 880s next to the 770s, would they work well together?

Also, I have been looking for aluminum cans for the 880s? Are they out there? If so where could I find these preferably without tweeters, and what are they running for, price wise? If not, what are other options, my 770s have aluminum cans w/ front facing lights on them now which I think looks best. If I would have to change for 880s what would be the preferred "best looking" options for this combo.

I am open to any other tower speaker suggestions, I'm looking for quality and they need to be able to project sound well. With the Ilmor Engine being soo loud, the people on the boat are going deaf before I can hear my music. Mainly wakesurf, but fair amount of wakeboarding.

    Thanks,
    Zack

Personally, I think this looks goofy. David will have to chime in, but I also think audibly the 880s will overpower the 770s not making much difference of them being there, especially if you're powering them differently.

        Wow... No Doubt!!!

Any other recommendations for speaker cans compatible with the JL 880s? That price is outrageous!

I can understand it looking goofy.. maybe I'll look for either 4 880s or just replace with 2 880s for now and see how I like them and if I need more sound

Sell your current cans and buy black plastic 880's for 1300 with brackets.

$1050 plus $250(I think) for brackets. I would be putting rev 10's on if I didn't have clearance issues. I trying to decide between icon 8's, rev 8's and the 880's.

Yeah, I already have clearance issues with the 770s we have on right now. I don't think we have low profile brackets though, which I am planning on adding with new speakers. Does anyone know how well rev 8s or icon 8s compare? I would consider looking at them too.

I really don't feel I know enough to make any real decisions yet..

I went with Rev8's over 10's due to clearance with the ZFT4 Tower. I'm 6'-2" tall and I've hit my head too many times over the years of boating on tower speakers.

Like others mentioned listen first. Most marine shops will have access to boats you can listen to.

Do you know if you can use low profile brackets to the 880s? I believe he has the 770s on his boat.
