  • 2005 x10 Tower speaker inop

I recently purchased a 2005 x10 and the starboard tower speaker is not working. The light on the front of the speaker is working but no sound from the speaker. Since I'm new to the boat I'm not familiar with this speaker setup. I checked the cables and everything seems to be plugged tightly. I'm trying to figure out where this speaker is connected to the JL amp that I believe was stock with the boat. Does someone have a wiring diagram for this setup or was there are previous thread explaining the wiring from the tower speakers to the amp? Also, I'm adding two pictures of the cables that are at the top of the tower. I'm assuming these harnesses are for lightning and speaker cables but could someone tell me which is which. Thanks in advanced!

    Congrats on a great boat

Tower speaker wires come down the forward port tower leg and then to the amp(s). One quick way to check it out would be to pull a know good speaker from the interior, pull out that suspect tower speaker and swap them to see if it works ... probably a bad speaker

The factor wires are labeled where they connect to the amp .. you should be able to find it under the passenger storage compartment

    Good luck

turns out the amp signal channel is bad. Anyone have a recommendation on a good amp to go with or should I just replace with another JL Audio M600/6?

Its not a big deal to have an amp channel fixed. Maybe $100. Way less than a new amp. Having said that, I added a JL 400/4 in my 05 X10 to power the two tower speakers in bridge mode and it made a very noticeable difference.

any reason to go with the JL 400/4 to power the two tower speakers rather than JL Audio M200/2?

Absolutely? The 400/4 can deliver more then 2X the wattage of the 200/2, to a pair of tower pods. 75W rms v's 200W rms.

You can send in the Jl audio amps to be repaired. Even out of warranty. I think they have the pricing on their website.

I did this last winter with my JL 4 channel. It was a flat fee, I think it took several months to get it back. I had to go to a JL audio distributor. Which was this small Mom/pop shop. But they were very helpful. I had to pay shipping one way.

ok, I've had more time to do more troubleshooting. kind of a weird situation, if disconnect the tower speaker wires all the speakers go out. Could this be from a bad channel or from bad wiring or a ground?

the way the tower speakers were connected before were to channel 5 & 6 and the sub woofer was connected to channel 3 & 4 bridged connection. i have the jl audio e6450 amp. shouldn't the sub woofer be on the bridge connection on channel 5 & 6 not channels 3 & 4? i did switch the tower speakers to channels 3 & 4 and the sub woofer to 5 & 6 but still no sound coming out of the starboard tower speaker.
