  • Fusion Remote Repair

Anyone ever had or tried to repair the a Fusion NRX300 remote? We were surfing and when my rider threw in the rope, it hit the knob on the transom remote and knocked off the knob as well as bent the shaft the knob attaches to. When bending the shaft back, it snapped.

I called Fusion to see if they repair them and they said no and that I would need a full replacement, and that it also takes 80lbs of force to snap that knob. I disassembled the remote & know that all I need is a rotary encoder w/ switch which is about a $2 part + shipping, so it seems pretty ridiculous to have to buy a $200 remote.

Has anyone done or attempted this repair? I'm going to attempt it one way or another, I was just curious where you ordered the knob from & the specs on it so that I got something as close to the factory feel as possible (don't want rotary knob that feels "clicky").

Had the same issue with my transom remote. Dealer replaced the remote under warranty.

Mine told me Fusion denies the warranty.... interesting.

I was fortunate to find a replacement remote on ebay where a guy was selling only the remote portion (no cables, install equipment, etc). Perfect for what I needed, and the price was a lot cheaper than buying a full remote. However, I'd like to fix the damaged one I have so that I have a spare on deck if/when this happens again.

The first remote was damaged when the cover was off. We now leave the cover in place, and it may have helped. My swim deck gets a ton of use by the grandkids and their friends when we tie our XL floating mat off the rear eye bolts.

Ended up breaking the remote again, so this time I embarked on how to repair. Here's how to do it...

          1. Remove the screws from the back of the remote assembly. These are T6 torx, there are approx 10 of them.

          2. There are 2 plugs you have to remove from the circuit board. One simply pulls out, the other you will need to flip up a tiny flap and slide the flat cable out. At this point you should be able to remove the back half of the housing assembly.

          3. Remove 2 T6 torx screws that are hold the circuit board to the other half of the housing assembly. You can now remove the circuit board.

          4. The volume knob is a rotary encoder w/ switch. It's soldered on to the board via its 5 pins + 2 placeholder pins. Remove & replace w/ new rotary encoder.

Now you can reverse steps 1-3.

Here is the part I ordered for anyone else that may be interested in this.

Buy PEC11L-4215F-S0015 with extended same day shipping times. View datasheets, stock and pricing, or find other Mechanical Encoders.

It's not an identical replacement but it's very, very close. The only noticeable difference is the shaft is 2mm longer but I could not find one that was an exact match without having to order 1000+. Since I had 2 broken remotes, on the first remote I was just able to verify that this encoder worked. On the 2nd, I ground approx 2mm off the shaft and will do that for others going forward.

First day I had my boat out, I looked at the transom remote and the shaft was broke off flush with the remote. No one had been pulled or came into contact with the remote that I was aware of
