JL Audio E2150M Amp not turning on

I am a new Mastercraft owner (2006 XStar purchased late last summer) and first of wanted to say thank you to all that contribute to this forum. Its so helpful and amazing at the amount of time you guys put into answering questions and helping others out.

So for my first post here is my question/issue.





I believe the audio system that came with my boat is original. Clarion CMD4 HU, 2 JL Audio Amps ( E2150 m and an E 6450M). The 6450 runs the 4 speakers in boat and a sub behind the helm. The 2150 runs (or did) the 2 tower speakers. The 2150 is now not turning on but it did last summer and no wiring has changed.

I am far from knowledgeable in stereos and installs but this is what I have done so far to try and figure it out.....
The fuse at the battery is fine. I tried jumping the +12v to the remote wire as suggested in the manual with no luck. I checked the power at the amp with a multimeter and there was power but here is where I am confused.... when the key is off there was 12.4 v where power comes into the amp. When the key was on(acc position or turned on to run) it only displayed 4.48v? (the 6450 still had 12.4v) Each amp has power running to it independently directly from the battery with a fuse in between. The remote turn on wire runs from the HU to the E6450 then jumps to the 2150. According to the manual there is no internal fuse in the 2150.
So I guess I have 2 questions.
1. Should the power to the 2150 drop like that?
2. Is the 2150 blown? My unqualified guess is it is done and I need a new amp.

If you have battery voltage across the amp negative and positive and the amp negative and amp tern-on, then then its likely the amp.

Sounds like bad connection. I would start to with the basics. Make sure your battery running the amps is good. It should read at least 12.6 at rest and do a load test to confirm it can carry load. Then I would check ground and positive cables and connections.

You could swap the power connector on the amps to see if the issue is with the amp or cables.

Definitely try to plug the power cables into the 2150 amp and see if it will power up then. If so, it's either a fuse or cable problem. If not, it's likely the amp.

Thanks for the replies. Batteries were both showing 12.58 v at rest. Didn't check them under load. Will switch power cables this aft after work.

Why not just measure the voltage at the amp terminals. Much easier then swapping cables.

maybe worth checking the blue/white wake-on cable connection -> I see you bridged from amp1 and its not a direct cable.

A voltmeter is your best friend here. Either you've got power at the amp and the amp is dead, or you don't have power at the amp via the source or turn-on lead. It's really not complicated...

He said voltage at the amp drops to ~4.5 volts when the 2150 amp turned on. Either the issue is with the 2150 amp or the power cable/fuse is bad or there's a loose connection somewhere causing voltage drop . Swapping the power cable from the 6450 would help track down the issue.

Sorry for the delay. Update on this...turned out it was a bad ground wire. I replaced the connection at the battery and it fired up. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I believe he stated that was the reading on the gauge. My suggestion was to measure voltage at the amp. Amp cable would not effect gauge reading, but low voltage at amp and gauge, points to something at the source of the voltage.
