  • Ballast puppy flow

Have a 2004 XStar. Filling the rear tanks rakes about 5 minutes give or take and 8 to 10 minutes for the center. Figure thats about right.
When emptying them, seems to be a shorter amount of time before the flow stops. Not sure if they are emptying all the way.
i know i can unscrew the sensors and look down the tanks.
When emptying i’ve seen most boats shoot a pretty good stream, about like a bilge pump but mine when they empty barely shoot out a couple inches and it’s not a solid stream like a hose.
Is this normal or should i be looking for a problem?
i’ve replaced all the impellers this season and don’t see any difference.

Drain times are typically 10-20% shorter than fill times. That's because it takes more energy to raise water than to lower it due to gravity.

Technically, if when emptying he is sending water out the side, he is pumping that water higher vertically than when he is filling the bag.

Newer boats that empty below the waterline may enjoy a gravity boost.

Good point, I didn't pay enough attention to the year of the boat.

For what it's worth, I have the same boat, new pumps and factory manifold plumbing. It operates just about like you describe yours. Fills and empties the tanks fully as far as I know. With that manifold you have 2 outlets for draining so the flow will look less. Mine certainly doesn't "shoot out" like the bilge pumps do either.
