'05 XStar wakesurf set up

I know XStars are tricky at best when trying to get a decent wake for surfing. I was very unimpressed by the port wake when the stock ballast tanks are full, gas tank full, and 2 adults on board. Fortunately, stuffed in the rear compartment when I bought the boat were twin 540 (I think) and twin bow sacs (maybe 200 lb'ers??).

Should I fill em all up and then drain water as needed to get a decent wake for surfing?

Any ideas are appreciated!

I doubt there will be any need to drain anything. You may need to shift them around to shape the wake though.

Welcome and congrats on a GREAT boat...I have a 08 x-star and have had some luck surfing with the stock ballast and believe it or not you can actually put to much weight on one side and the wake just gets short and steep...I have had better success weighting the boat down equally and doing a slow turn to the surfing side and it seems to lenghten the wake for surfing...so fill the boat with friends and let the sit and be comfortable and you will get a good (not great) surf wake and will hopefully love the boat as much as I as I love mine

I have the same boat and here's what I do.

750# sac in rear locker
400# sac on port side seat
KGB full
spread people around on port side, 2 people up front usually helps make the wave longer.

It's a short wave on this boat, I ride very close to the platform but I can ride forever.

Any idea how much weight my stock tanks hold?

250 in each rear and 500 in the front...when you load it up with all the extra weight be carefull not to put the bow under to deep...It takes a bit of getting used to but you will have no problem and hey the carpet can always use a wash :-)

I am hoping the lake is calm tonight, because I don't have the marbles (yet) to weigh her down if water isn't glassy.

Reread this quote after last post and think I misunderstood. You are referring to the stock tanks water weight?

It took me a few nights to go wireless but I finally got it!

I've been filling stock port and KGB, 540 launch pad (3/4 full) in rear port locker, and 240 ProX in the bow port storage. Wife is driving boat with a full tank of petro (6.1 lbs/per gal X 60 gal tank =366lbs) and no passengers. Wake seemed messy with "white H20" and I was catching a lot of spray.

I decided to try filling the other 240 ProX on the bench seat in rear port corner and VOILA - the wake appears! Next day, 3 buddys replaced the 240 ProX in rear corner of boat and almost everybody surfs with no problem.

Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to spending all summer tweaking the weight distribution equation to get wake dialed in on my Star.
