  • Surfing speed - weird situation

    Hello,

I filled up my tanks and tried to get the right speed going today. I think something must be way off, because I had to show 23mph to get a wave behind my boat. I think this must be inaccurate. When I was going 12.5, there was literally no wave at all, just a bunch of mush and it felt like I was barely above idle.

Perhaps my speedometer and perfect pass are way off, but it threw me for a loop.

    Thanks

Definitely give us all the details.

Also make sure you only fill up the bags on the side you're trying to surf on.

Shouldn't be a problem getting a wake going with that. When we surf on the starboard side I found it makes the best wake when I put a person in the bow on the starboard side. I have a 07 X-1, obviously a much smaller boat than yours, but that works for us.

Our starboard surf speed is about 10.4-10.6. If you have an iphone or some other GPS device I'd try checking your speed.

It's a little easier to get a good surf wake on the port side because of the prop direction.

first thing I would do is check speedo with your phone using the GPS.. plenty of free aps..

Its way too easy to check with the toggle switch.

what was the water depth? I notice if i get below about 10ft of water my wave turns to mush.

On your dash, on the right, you have 3 toggle switches. The on in the middle says speedo. You can press that switch and it will change the speed on speedo. You must have it set to high. You will need to either set it to match your perfect pass or set it a GPS system.

If you need more info on setting up an X30 for surfing check out the ballast forums and look or my setup.
