  • Ballst question 98 225V LT1

Same hull as the x30 from 99-05. I have a 680ish bow sack, 380ish locker bag and an 1100 in each locker. Fully loaded I am 3000 RPM 3 kids in the front, wife in the spotters seat and a good surf wave. I cannot get to wakeboard speeds.

I have a couple of questions:

    1. I dont mind lightening the load, in fact knew that was a possibility when I bought all this weight (you can always stop short, but they dont stretch). i am guessing I would start by lightening the back to around 3/4 each (around 800) until it can get on plane with a full front load. If not enough push lighten the load up front some until I get the desired effect. Sound right?

    2. Does anyone else have this setup without issue? I have heard multiple times pull the hard tanks and put in 1100s for the x30s with my hull.

    3. Would a prop change make a drastic difference? because I am not getting anywhere near plane. I believe i have the standard prop but cant recall I think its like a 14x18 but cannot swear to it.

    thanks in advance.

Bump... just spent a week at the lake playing around with it.... I have an odd size prop on the boat, at least not an original option from what I hear.

    It's 14x20..

Anyhow, I am surfing a lot with the kids, we board some also. I have a lot of weight in the boat as described above. , at surf speeds I am running about 3k RPM. I am running about 2200 in back about 500 in bow. As described above if i load my locker and bag out completely I can't even get to surf speeds. I know the easy answer is to lighten the load and that could be the best answer. But would a prop change help?

        Gonzo,

We have the same boat / engine and i just changed out my prop this past week, the difference was significant. I'm pretty sure that the prop I took off was the same that you have on there now. It had the following ID:

        OJ 14 202LC 1 1/8 cup

on the back it had the following stamped:
        1430 3430 1302

To be truthful, I'm not sure what these numbers fully all mean, but it sounds to be the same. I called and spoke with Wakemakers and they were great to deal with. They set me up with an OJ wakepro 915 4 blade 14.75" X 14.5" prop

I don't think that I've loaded the boat up as much as you have, but I do load it up pretty well with people and ballast (the most i have in the back is 2 750s in the rear lockers) and then a variety of bags throughout the rest of the boat. With the new prop there is a huge and noticable difference in how it jumps out of the water and feels like the boat is not working as hard to maintain both surf and wakeboard speeds. My speedo is not always the most accurate, but I'm pretty sure that I've lost some top end speed - for whatever that is worth. Regardless, I wish that I would have done this sooner.

Best of luck and shoot me a PM if you want to chat in more detail.

Awesome advice, Vince at skidim had not seen my proposal before. Glad to know it's not unusual and an upgrade can help. Did it help any with gas consumption?

Of course Eric will be first call, advice above from a similar boat owner was what I was looking for!

I don't know about Gas consumption. We are fortunate to live on the lake, but have to fill it with traditional 5 Gallon Cans. I usually just throw a couple in sporadically if I see it getting low - Sometimes it's one, sometimes it's 5.

I would not say that I've had any noticeable difference one way or the other, but this is totally subjective.

Thanks again, Eric will probably know if I will notice a change. I am guessing if I can do more with less RPMs it should help.

Have you skied behind the new Prop yet? My daughter and I break out the slalom from time to time and in the current setup (unloaded) the maristar throws a pretty good free ski wake.

I have not yet skied behind it, mostly just surfed and some wake boarding. A couple people indicated the shape of the wake would change, again I thought it was subjective with no big difference.

Regarding the ski wake- yes, I agree. I'm really happy with how well this boat does everything (surf, wakeboard, tube, ski, socialize).

Just to be clear, the wake specific prop will raise the rpms required hold a speed. It's easier on the motor when you use the higher rpm. I would assume that you gas "consumption" will go up.

As a side note, the size of the new prop is substantially larger than the original one.

lol, engine math.... I will have to get Hammer to explain this to me.

On an unrelated topic, where did you find your steering wheel, and was there a specific size you had to order?

And did you use a traditional puller to take the old one off?

I just found a splined shaft wheel on Ebay. Its a cheapy and plastic. My stearing column slips a little at takeoff, when I get around to replacing that I may upgrade the steering wheel. But at first glance it looks good, and its functional so I am not in a hurry. To pull the original I pulled off that center cover that I didnt know was there and took the nut off.... then I pulled really hard.

Here is a current link to the one I bought if it helps.
