  • X46 rear ballast bag ripped again

Starboard bag under back seats has ripped again on our first day of using it. Had the same issue last year and Mastercraft replaced it. Anyone have a good fix for the bags until I get a new one.....like repair patch from tubes will temp work?

    IS the bag freely vented?

It is the Gen 2 bag that is under the rear seats and it isn't vented.

Most tube patch kits are the wrong plastic type. You need a patch kit for zodiac type boats Canadian tire or a marine store will have them. You need to really make sure you have the bag straight and perfectly positioned. So when you fill it leave the seats open and watch that is not twisted. You may need to pump it out and reposition it a couple of times. Not the best design the bags are vented make sure the vent is connected to the top of the bag.

Make sure all the sharp edges from upper hull and engine cover are taken care of, multiple layers of quality duct tape will do fine, maybe you even find some in your interieur/hull color. I cut the sharp edged on the lower seatback corner of the hull a slight bit rounder.
Yes the right patch kit will do the job. Also as others mentioned before the correct positioning of the bag is imortant, so I'd watch for/work on that on the first couple of fillings.

I might add a photo later

Used a patch from my SUP to fix it for tomorrow. Going to get s new bag from MC ASAP as this is the second bag that has a rip In it from something in the boat. I need MC to step up and get a new bag to me ASAP.

Did you figure out what rips the bag? Which side is it and about where is the damage?

Im pretty shocked that the bag is not vented. My X23 has very similar bags and they are vented.

I would suggest fined an inflatable yacht dingy repair kit from like west marine. That material is very durable.

I think the metal bracket that holds the gas strut for the seat to stay up is rubbing on the bag when it is full. The design is not great and they need to put something on this to stop the bag from tearing.

I'd definitely cut a piece of a noodle, or something like that, off and Tuck tape it onto that bracket before I ran again. At least till MC fixes it.

That is a good idea. Thanks.

Update.....My dealer is getting a new bag from MC under warranty. It is being air shipped to me so I can enjoy the week. Put a patch from my inflatable SUP on the ripped bag and it holds water (still leaks a little) enough for us to do some surfing. I put a yoga mat that I had on top of the area that ripped to see if it would protect it. There is something in the area that is causing this.....just can't figure it out.
