2010 Xstar Ballast Timers not updating: Viper BIG

Good Morning Everyone,

Is there a procedure for sending the ballast timer configuration from the BIG screen to the actual timers? I have them set for 10 Port, 13 KGB, and 12 Starboard but only the port seems to run the actual length of time. The KGB and SB seem to turn off at the same time (maybe 6-7 minutes?).

I've tried sending updated timings to the timers with the Boat key just to on position, and also while running. Nothing seems to effect the runtime.

Side note, I updated my software early this season... but I'm not sure that had an effect? The timers were working last season for what its worth.

Update: After further review, I was getting three blinks when the pump stopped. I think this is a pump error (maybe overheat trip?).

I swapped the pumps connections at the timer harness and ran them. Now the Portside isn’t filling and throwing the same 3 blinks after about 5 minutes. I’m going to replace the pump and see what the outcome is.

I’ll report back my findings.

I've now replaced all three pumps... and the Ai3 Controller. A casual $1500 thrown at the problem and guess what. No change!

Regardless of the "time" set in the settings "ballast configuration" page, the controller does not seem to be updating. I've reset the BIG software to "factory settings" and now all of my timers run for 2.5 minutes.... and wont F'n Change.

Am I Missing something here? I haven't found a procedure on the internet that describes how to update the fill times...

Anyone have any ideas?

Update:

I’ve received word from a MC vendor that this year does not allow you to change the time even thought it’s in the settings… given that I have changed the run times in the past, I was confident that RBI’s wasn’t true.

I’ve tried a bunch of scenarios and finally found one that worked.

In order to get the run times to change, the engine needs to be off. As long as I sent the configuration before starting the engine, it would update the Ai3.

I suspect that there is too much noise in the electrical system (given the lines on the screen when pumps are running) that the “network” signal doesn’t get accepted by the Ai3? Someone more familiar with CAN bus can let me know if this is accurate…

I’m going to isolate the starter battery from the house using an ACR for comfort, I’ll report back if anything changes. I can’t imagine that I’d see much if any line filtering, but we’ll see.
