Delco Remy alternator plug?

I want to upgrade to at least a 100amp alternator. My electrical guy said he can't upgrade my original one(19020606) What is the plug on the back for? One side has an S the other looks like a 1.They can build me a GM one but i want to be sure that i don't fry the new one.

The plug that goes into the alternator has a red and a purple wire.The red wire comes from the controlled side of the circuit breaker and is always at battery potential. The purplewire is the alternator exciter lead and is only hot with the key switch is in the on or crank position. Make sure if somone builds you one that they build it to SAE J1171 specifications ... spark arrested. Also make sure if you use a larher alternator that you increase the wire sizes in the charging circuit accordingly.

You need a Marine alt. They are not the same as auto alts.. Balmar makes what you need. Try jackrabbitmarine.com. They sell complete kits with regulators and echo chargers.

give these guys a call ...just put a 140amp marine in my boat and it works great...it was only 140 bucks brand new
