  • Replacement dash switches for 2006 Prostar 197

Some dash toggle switches on my '06 197 are needing to be replaced. 3 are broken/stripped on the plastic threads that protrude from the dash so that the metal nut can't secure the switch to the dash plate. Electrically the switches work, but can't be secured to the dash. The 3 are labeled Carling 0532 and are 8 prong, for the Heater, Courtesy Lights, and Nav/Anchor. Mine have the blue/green lighted tip on the silver toggle.

I am working with my local MC dealer to see if they can source.

Has anyone found an alternate source of compatible switches? Thanks.

Look at Carling LT series switches.

I have purchased ones with red lights for my boat from Grainger and Mouser Electronics.
    LT-Series illuminated toggle switches feature a three-color lighting sequence from a single lamp. 1-2 Poles, 10A 250VAC; 15A 125VAC; 15A 12-28VDC.

Here is the current Carling lighted toggle switch line. There are lots of choices for light colors and switch configuration. Digikey doesn't stock them all but may be able to order them from Carling (Littelfuse). Once you figure out which part number you want for light and switch configuration. You can try googling the part number to see if you can find it in stock somewhere else like Mouser or one of the other electronic distributors.

Thanks for the info. Just an update... MasterCraft no longer has switches for the '06 and wasn't a help with actual part numbers for the switches.

I went to Mouser and they kept my detailed description and pics for a week, and then came back with a 'no bid' and provided the same LT product sheet that you linked above. I was hoping for a bit more guidance than self-help, and have not yet received a callback from Mouser tech to see why they were of no help.

I sent the same details to Digikey, and hope to get the guidance from them to direct me to the correct replacement LT part numbers.

Look on Fleabay. I do a certain amount of marine wiring and switch replacement and find most of my needs there. New products. No guarantees on your findings. Old switches can be a challenge to find.

The 0532 product number may have changed since 2006.

          Look for Eaton brand switch.

I'm surprised Mouser even responded. These electronic supply houses are pretty low overhead operations. Providing much guidance just isn't something they generally have the staff to do. Their target customer base is largely engineering design firms or independent design engineers.

I would ignore the "0532" printed on the switches, it appears they have changed their part numbering since those were made in 2006.

Take a look at this datasheet: http://pdf.datasheet.live/datasheets...35-401-125.pdf

You want a dual pole ON-OFF-ON, with the satin chrome snapkap actuator with blue lens, clear clear clear lighting sequence?, and 12 volt light. (I am assuming that is the correct color sequence).

This yields part number LT2561-655-012. I am not 100% on the lighting sequence, so the "55" might have to change. From my reading, clear clear clear would mean that the light is on in all positions. Also, it looks like you have a blue lens on your snapkap actuator, so maybe the lighting sequence should be clear off clear (not an option in the datasheet) or blue off blue (also not an option in the datasheet).

It appears that only the red lens version of this switch is commonly available, see this ebay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/383970774163?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=1OF02YvTQAW&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=dcPsDybw Qy y&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

You might be able to order any LT-2561-X55-012 and swap your actuator onto it. I don't know if that's possible without destroying the switch body though. Also be sure to save your chrome nuts, they are not standard. I'll look around for a drop in replacement and post back if I find anything.

Upon further searching, it appears that there are some older switches with lighting sequences that are not in the datasheet.

LT2561-604-012, "04" isn't listed in the table, but we can pretty reasonably assume that it was the blue blue blue lighting sequence.

This looks like the correct part for your application, and 10 of them are available on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/13347658397...mis&media=COPY

They are 30 bucks each though...

Do any of your broken switches have momentary function? If so you would need a different part number.

I have been in contact with Mouser and DigiKey. They have illuminated toggle switches by NKK and Carling that may be compatible, but they need the voltage/amp rating for each original Carling switch, and that is not imprinted. They also need to know whether single pole, or dual pole. I will replace all 6 switches so they match. They are:

                  - Carling 0523 on-off 3 post tab quick connect, 12V for the Shower

                  - Carling 0530 on-on (since the bilge is either on Automatic or Manual) 4 post QC, 12V, for the Bilge

                  - Carling 0532 on-off-on 8 post QC, 12V, for the Heater, Courtesy Lights, and Nav/Anchor.

                  - Carling 0533 on-off 3 post QC, 12V, for the Blower (the posts are in the same configuration, and appears the same as 0523 but imprinted with a different number)

I was also told that the Carling LT series is 3 position only (on-off-on), and will not be an option for the 3 switches that are on-off or on-on. NKK has a metal body switch that would solve the plastic threads breaking issue if they are compatible.

Does anyone know the amp rating and/or single or dual pole for the 4 switches above?

                  Thank you.

The current rating is in the datasheet I linked.

                    15A 15-28VDC

                    Single pole
                    Dual pole
                    Dual pole
                    Dual pole?

The last one I'm not sure of, but sometimes high draw loads like a blower motor are wired up to dual pole switch so each pole provides half the total current.
