Ipod docking suggestions

Hello all,

Fairly new, but a long time reader - still trying to figure out how to navigate around.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for an ipod docking device for the boat? I'm not looking to replace the whole sound system, but I'm sure there are products out there to somehow hook into a regular (non mp3) radio/cd player. I've seen some products, but would like to hear some evaluations.

If its got a clarion head unit then there'll most probably be a pair of phono inputs on the back of it, jack to phone lead from the headphone jack of anything will work.
There may be more complex solutions out there for ipod perhaps but only if head unit is compatible.

On our X2 you don't need to pull the head unit just lift the observer seat and perhaps grab a torch, I'm guessing they're all the same.

I agree, the easiest way is to just plug the ipod into the auxiliary input on the head unit. Drill a small hole in the glove compartment and leave the ipod there.

I have a wire run across to the drivers side and than use a suction cup mount that I got off of eBay.

I ran a line from the aux input on the Clarion head unit all the way around the bow and back to the drivers seat. The line comes out just below the throttle, and I plug it into the headphone output on my Ipod. I put a piece of heavy duty velcro on the panel next to my stereo remote, and another piece on the protective case I bought for the Ipod so it hangs on the panel right next to the stereo remote. There is also an accessory plug on my X9 on that panel, so I can power the Ipod without draining it's battery.

And that's what I'm doing tomorrow, I've had enough of whoever is in the observers seat picking the tunes.........and two years of just turning down the volume has not got the mesage across

You can pick up a transmitter that operates off the Ipod battery. No wires and can operate from anywhere in the boat.

There was also an input on the driver's side. But I put in a Y cable and added the input in the glove box.

I also had one of the bluetooth transmitter/ receivers so the ipod could be anywhere. I hated it. Every time the key was turned off, the sound was killed. Granted it could have been rewired to constant power, but I still preferred the direct hook up.

adapt to 3.5 if necessary and run over to HU. wire this up on the driver side power and ground. it will charge your ipod, and bypass the DA converter on the ipod by sending signal over the ipod cable instead of out the earphone jack.

don't waste your money on fm transmitter. they're sq is not good imo.

there are cheaper versions of this out there, but they don't charge 4th gen ipods.
