We have a 2004 X-Star with the 8.1L and the check engine light is going off with "TRAN" on the display. Everything is fine with the transmission though, runs smooth, accelerates fine, and fluid level is up. Most likely (and hopefully) an issue with the computer code, but was looking to get some input on this. We're taking it to the dealer tomorrow, leaving for Norris on Wednesday so she needs fixed pronto! Thanks, -Adam

That is an indicatinb of high transmission temperature. There is a switch on the transmission that closes and sets that code when the trans exceeds 195 degrees F. Could be a real trans overheat ... have you checked the trans cooler ... or could be a bad switch. The switch on your trans is a normally open switch that closes when it gets hot. If there is continuity through the switch with the trans cold, the switch is bad.Engine Nut

Thanks for your reply. After a few calls by my dealer while I was on the lake tweaking a couple of things to try to shut it off, it ironically turned out to be an oil pressure switch gone bad. Not a thing to do with the transmission but was setting off that alarm.
