  • Low Voltage Alarm - '05 197 w/MCX Motor

    New to TT... need guidance.

Purchased an '05 197 with MCX motor this year. Recently had a low voltage alarm so I put a new battery in the boat (bluetop optima). I'm hoping this solved the problem because the old battery was junk (7.8v after pulling). However, before I leave for the long weekend I decided the test the alternator and battery with a voltmeter at idle (after a run around the lake):

    -Battery: 12.08v
    -Alternator: 12.05v

I'm concerned the alternator may be junk. Any idea what it should it producing at idle?

    Thanks!

Alternators should reach 14.4ish at around 2k rpm. Idle isn't a spec used. If you need better output at idle you'll have to overdrive the alternator.
