  • Voltage Fluctuation

I have a 2012 X-45. I'm noticing a voltage fluctuation between 13.7 and 14.2 on the digital voltage readout. Is this fluctuation normal? I don't recall this in the past. I know that my batteries are probably on their last leg, but isn't voltage while the engine is running controlled by the alternator? Trying to determine if my alternator is bad. Any thoughts would help.

I'm having a similar problem but mine fluctuates between 12.6V and 14V at idle.

I think mine might be the external voltage regulator.

The voltage is supposed to fluctuate between idle (800 rpm) and 1,500 rpm.

    Are you measuring at idle?

Where are you taking the reading from on your multimeter? At the back of the alternator? The positive and negative bus bars under the helm? At the battery terminals?
