  • Help with engine

My starter solenoid keeps frying on my 1988 Tristar, when you start the engine is continues to crank even with the key out of the ignition and with the kill out. So after some troubleshooting it takes me to the starter solenoid, problem is none of the numbers match up. The title says its a 240 hp, but the manual says its 250, I was told it was a Ford by the previous owner is the only reason I have guess it. I can not find a stamp on the engine that shows a manufacturer or anything. So I am trying to find a starter solenoid but I can't find a good part number since I dont have a good grasp on what kind of motor. The title also says the motor is a IF-872726 if anyone knows what it is, the solenoid that was in there before was an aftermarket p/n saz-4201cpy from ametek. I dont know if it would be better to go aftermarket or stay with the OEM...help please!!

The IF872726 is an Indmar Ford serial number. GM engine serial numbers started with IC as in Indmar Chevrolet.
