  • Bringing back a 220 CSX to life. Help with fuel filter/pump

Ok. Four years ago I was in Hawaii boating at least 3 times a week on my 08 CSX 220, then I got orders to Japan. I didn’t want to sell so the military stored it for 3.5 years and when we moved to Anchorage Alaska they moved it up here. So I’m trying to bring back a 5.7 MPI Crusader that hasn’t been ran in 4 years.

the engine turns over and starts with starting fluid and will continue to run as long as starting fluid is sprayed. If you stop it will sputter and die after about 20 seconds.

I don’t think I hear the fuel pump turn on when I turn the key initially, so that’s my number one suspect. I also have replacement fuel filters to put in as well. Here’s the problem I have re-searched online, looked up manuals, and crawled all through the engine, and I can’t find where crusader put the fuel control cell.
According to the diagrams attached it should be an easy to find on the outside of the engine. , according to the diagrams attached, it should be a easy to find on the outside of the engine but like I said, I’ve been all over it at least a dozen times.

Any help finding the fuel control cell, or general tips for bringing back a boat that has been out of service this long, picture it is will be greatly appreciated. I’d love to be fishing and boarding behind it up here in Alaska in a few weeks.
    Jordan.

How about following the fuel lines from the fuel rail?

I did follow the line and it goes directly into the throttle body which according to every crusader manual I can find is not correct, that it should go into a externally mounted FCC that has filters and pumps inside that…
well after a week of reading and searching I got the brilliant idea to contact Crusader and after a few emails and pictures the contact asked “is this a Mastercraft? If so, the pump is in the gas tank so there is not a fuel filter”. Not a fuel filter???

I can hear the pump running in the tank when I turn the key, so my next group of questions are?

-do I drain the little gas I have in there, or fill it up with fresh gas?
-I have searched for days for a filter, does anyone know of one outside the tank? Crusader says no
-of course I can’t read any part number off the tank pick up unit. Anyone have any idea?

The fuel filter is inside the tank, attached to the bottom of the pump module.

Does it have 4 year old gas in there? Yes drain that out and put in fresh ethanol free gas if you can. But also, how "little gas" are we talking, can it be that you simply do not have enough gas in the tank for the pump to reach?

See above, fuel filter is in the tank.

I am not sure of the exact MC part number for the fuel pump module, but it looks to be a return-less carter/federal mogul model.
I highly recommend taking the time to read the Fuel Pump 101 sticky thread, you will learn a ton about how the fuel pump works, and the common failure points, and the best known solutions for those failures.
