  • ECM fault codes

Hi everyone, well I am back to try and see if anyone has some information on where I can find fault codes for my ECM. I have a 2002 X30 with the LTR motor 330HP, it has a MEFI 4. The problem I am Having is the boat runs for a minute or two and shuts off, I restart it and it fires right up and then runs for a little while and shuts off again. So I went ahead and found info on retrieving fault codes by jumpering terminals A and B on the DTC connector. I found the ECM had fault codes 34 and 81. Does anyone know what these are I would really appreciate any info thanks. I did have the fuel pump replaced in 2008 if that is of any help, well thanks again and have a great weekend!

Just wondering if it isn't a fuel filter/pump issue again for you. Does it do this when the tank is absolutely full?

jim will be able to probably help you. with that said, have you ever had to replace the fuel pump?

last summer on my 07 mc with the rtp engine, mine pretty much did the same thing as what you are saying. i had the filter replaced but it turned out to be the pump. i never ever left the fuel tank less than 1/2 full and still had pump failure.

34 is MAP sensor voltage, low- I doubt there's a transmission fault code, but EngineNut would be the guy to explain that. AFAIK, there's no code for the pump or fuel pressure.

Yea the tank is full and it still shuts off, I never run the tank down below half. the fuel pump was replaced in 2008, you think it might be on its way out again?

There's only one way to find out if the pump is working properly- check the fuel pressure. If that's good (checked at Key ON/Engine OFF, idle, 2000 RPM and WOT under load- not on the trailer), you'll need to look elsewhere. Since you got a 34 code, you need to look into the MAP sensor.

You could always call MC and ask what 81 means. EngineNut is a member here but I would recommend calling MC first. He'll probably see this thread soon enough.

                    PFI Diagnostics

I have attached the PFI Diagnostics section from a service manual. The Code 34 diagnostics is included. There is a whole list of code 81's and without a scan tool I don't know which one you have. The most common one is related to injector banks A and B which is most often caused by a poor ground.
