So, my LTR has a loss of compression in cyl 5. We are going to do teardown to determine WHAT the actual cause is. There is a lot of things to consider and with over 1000hrs, a rebuild at a minimum is a topic on the table. But the topic of a New or ReMan engine has come up as well. The concern is that with the high hours(I know not really) that in discovery of the current heads and block, there may be a surface that is to far out of tolerance to be rebuilt. It's unlikely, but has to be in the consideration. Secondly, there is the concern of warranty of the work. If something goes wrong with less than 100hours, what is my re-course???
In my current situation, I was already planning to keep the boat at least another 3 years, then reassess my situation. So some work will be done now, especially with the cost of current late model boats.
As part of due diligence, what are some good resources for NEW and ReMan engines? Additionally, Turn-Key solutions.
Thanks,
Kevin
