  • 2012 Ilmor starting issues

    Hey folks!

is there anyone who have same problems with the 2011-2012 Ilmor MV8 6.0. Sometimes if i try to start and there is only one clicking to hear and nothing else. After 2-3 attempts it starts. This happends since i got my Boat with about 6 hours. Batteries are new and good. All connections are stable. My Dealer send me this Service Bulletin from Mastercraft, but i can´t figure out the problem. I´m afraid of it sitting on the lake not able to start the motor. In the following picture you can see my starter. Is there maybe anything wrong affiliated?

    Thanks for your help.

I too would take it back to the dealer for this. It sounds like this poorly written and illustrated service bulletin is cleaning and changing the location of one of the wires on the starter solenoid. This is probably a heat related issue that they are addressing.

If you feel the need to work on this yourself, you may help or solve this issue by removing the starter solenoid wires one at a time, cleaning with a wire brush (preferably stainless wire), applying dielectric grease to the connection and making a secure connection.

If that doesn't work - bench test the starter....

I am not an Ilmore guy but I interpret that bulletin a little differently. By "clean power" they are referring to a 12V signal that is "clean" ... not interruptable. It doesn't mean free of corrosion which of course is also important. By moving the wire to the battery switch it is essentially like connecting it directly to that battery which is how we do it.

            Ilmor starter prolems

I have the same problem and have been advised the connection between the starter and the starter solenoid is corroded. This engine has 50 hours on it. Cleaning the connections enabled the engine to start and stop on command, but the mechanic is not sure the connection will continue to be reliable and has recommended obtaining a new starter.

                Ilmor Starter Problem

There do not seem to be any additional problems. The instrument panel comes up with no difficulty.

Finally i have solved my starting issue. Have changed the batteryswitch, that solved the problem. Thinking the connection was not good enough. Thanks for the help!
