  • Tranny filter, LTR question

My manual states to remove and clean the tranny filter. My marina is stating that this is basically a large mesh strainer and not a fine strainer. Just wondering if anyone has taken on this task and what they found on the filter.

Mine is a 2002 X30 with the LTR motor

    thanks for any input

Uplander, here is a link to the Hurth V-drive transmission. Look on page 8d-11 and you will see the location of the filter and other good information. Hope this helps.

E Basic Power sells the filter with new O rings for about $50

Here is the location on mine. I just cleaned mine with brake cleaner and let it dry. The first time you try to take the cover off it may be difficult to loosen the allen on the top of the filter housing. This is were I suck out all my tranny fluid. Also you get almost every bit of it by going through the center hole. Once you do that you can loosen the drain plug and get it all. Drain plug is at the bottom of the picture in the center brass color.

        More good info here.

I do my trans every other year. I use my mightyvac to suck out the fluid. Just clean the strainer with some brake clean. The allen is a 6mm. It might be hard to turn, but it will eventually loosen, be sure to warm it up before changing it.

Jayhawk - you just made me sleep tonight, I have been back and forth reading information and everything said Dexron but I have the yellow sticker on mine that said 15W-40. Thanks for posting this so fast also
