Currently own a 1990 tristar, great boat. Looking to increase sixe. Test drove a 2006 X30 today and when maxxed out at 50mph a slight knock or tap was heard and a very very slight surge. Otherwise rode great. Boat only has 244 hrs and is pristine. Owner tol me it had a governor on it and when maxxed at 50 it was what we were hearing. As I said it was very slight. Anyone heard of a governor on an '06 x30? if so it seems to me it would not create an obvious governing noise or surge. Any thoughts or ideas?

You may have heard the engine hitting the rev limiter.
Need more info:
Top speed @ what rpm?
What engine is in the boat?
What prop?
If it was hitting the rev limiter the prop is perhaps too low of a pitch.
50 mph would be a very good top speed. You may only see a bit higher with the 8.1 liter.I was njskier on here.

I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying rev limiter. I've got all the diacom CAL files for this ECM and engine and there isn't a rev limiter in it.
My guess is the tap or knock and surge was them hitting something with the prop and the boat reacting to it. I'm also sure the reason the speedo was saying 50 was because someone hit the speedo button on the lower right side dash panel.-Tim
