Replacment LT1 Fuel Pump

I have a 1998 Prostar 190 with a LT1 engine. The fuel pump is whining something fierce and I want to be prepared for the inevitable failure.

I'm told the original fuel pump has not been available for the last year or so. I called Skidim and they recommended the following:

The problem is that's a $464 part.

I've been scouring the posts on this topic and I see some are replacing the original with a Carter P5000 like this one:

At about $100 the Carter is a much better option financially but I also realize you get what you pay for.

Is it worth it to get the Indmar pump from Skidom or go with the less expensive alternative?

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to find a replacement that doesn't require any plumbing. Is there such a pump other than the indmar version?

Does anyone know the original pump part number? Perhaps I can find one on a shelf somewhere.

replacement pump does not have second connection at bottom. Remove the y connection and have a direct connection from MPI regulator to fuel tank.

Any additional parts necessary to complete this? That other thread shows that other pump that comes with additional parts.

I think I can shed some clarity on this. The replacement carter fuel pump comes with a threaded hose barbed type fitting. If you want to use that...you will need to cut factory rubber hose coming from tank. I did not want to do that. The factory gas line coming from tank has a female crimped thread nut. To make it plug and play you will need a 5/8 18 tread to 06 AN adapter for main fuel line to thread into.

Second...when you remove old pump, take the return thread insert with it. Leave that nipple threaded into the y union and cap it off.

The original OEM replacement pump (carter as well) was only $100 bucks before it was no longer available. I've got a couple hours and many sets course skiing on a p5000 in my 93 LT1. No problems, runs great.

mgs96ps do you have a link or suggestion to buy the 5/8 18 thread to 06 AN adapter? I wouldn't know where to begin to source this item.

I'm getting bog at WOT so it's time to replace. I figure if I have to replumb, might as well go with the Carter and pick up a spare and still be half the price of the Indamr. Thanks for all the help!

Thanks MCFever - P5000 seems the right pump for MPI and p61171 for TBI!
