Looking at a 2006 MasterCraft with an 8.1. Any issues with that motor?

I'd say at 900 hours the 8.1 has more then likely been replaced.. seen ALOT of new &.1s around 500 hours when I was looking for a star

CP, can you elaborate why? My 8.1 in my 04' suburban has been great other than burning oil (which Aric already pointed out).....

On land, good. On water, bad. Based on my source, I would not buy an MC with an 8.1 in it.

The 8.1 has got a lot of bad press on this site. But there are some very knowledgeable people who indicate otherwise. I wouldn't shy away from one, especially in a big boat like the X45

I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

I have the 8.1L in my 2002 X-30 with 640 hours on it and it had never missed a beat. Does burn a little oil - maybe a quart every 40 hours. Not too bad. Love the fact we can load 3,500 lbs of water and 6 people in it and it just goes without any bogging down.

I would not have a X-45 WITHOUT the L18 motor or the new 6.2L would be nice. Nothing less.

I like my 8.1 but I haven't had it that long. I'd be ok with 900hrs if the price is right. Mine does not burn much oil, and you should be checking your oil anyways. I haven't added any all summer and it ran plenty.
