  • Fuel Pump Inlet Issue. Indmar Pump Conversion.

    Doing an Indmar fuel pump conversion (pre-1999 5.7L) due to ours crapping out and new ones being completely unavailable. We’ve got the old pump out, but the new pump (silver) does not have threads on it’s inlet while the boat has a brass threaded fitting on its hose. They are both genuine Indmar parts. Is there an adapter I need? Feeling lost on this one.

    Is that new pump a 495117 part number?

    I believe there is a retrofit kit that includes a brass fitting and that the output side of the new pump has a threaded on fitting that's a push connect?

      Ok, so after much searching, I may have found my answer (hopefully) that I will try tonight (oh god please work).

      Fuel Inlet Connector: Comes with a 3/8" hose barb adapter, so you'll need to remove the swivel currently on the fuel line and direct connect - No issue

      Actual Pump: The pump itself looks almost identical to the original, short of having a different input and output configuration
      For the return line, you'll just need to get the parts to remove the T in the line. I believe it's a 1/4" FIP T, but again, this is a spare, so I haven't pulled it apart yet to see. You could replace it with a female-female coupler or remove all the other connectors/adapters and try to go from the hard line to the hose. The hardline has a double flare brake line nut on it, but I plan to use the existing adapter (to IPT) and go directly from that to a 3/8" hose barb to keep things clean.

      Hope that helps. I'm guessing I'll need to replace this when the boat goes out to Lake Powell early Sept, so I can give you more info then (if you can wait)."

        Correct, that is Indmar 495117 (the whole kit). The output is fine, as we've got the fuel rail with the shrader valve that attaches there. The inlet's the issue, but according to that post from CrazyTruck it seems like you're supposed to remove the brass fitting on the hose and directly clamp it to the pump inlet?

          Correct... just cut thread connect on fuel line... since its pulling fuel all you need is to clamp down the hise. If you are still running original fuel line.. you may want to replace that..

            Mike do you use injection hose clamps or oetiker clamps?

            I usually go oetiker for fuel applications.

              Whelp, got some good news and some bad news:

              First the good news. With the help of you fine folks, the new pump is in and is working!

              Now the bad news. We're still experiencing "coughs/hiccups/misfire" at 2500rpm and up under load (won't do it in neutral). No rough idle or anything, and the plugs look ok. We tapped out and are handing it over to the professionals next Tuesday to see if they can figure it out.

              Hope we're out shredding again soon.

                Update: I'm a ding dong and our distributor cap had broken. Shop swapped it and it ran like a swiss clock. At least we've got a new fuel pump out of the deal?

                Anyway, figured I'd post a resolution as it may help someone!
