I am happy with my Lincoln wire feed and welding steel. But, then again, having the ability would come in handy. One more thing to add to the list.

I was pretty lucky. When I bought my Miller 220 they had an offer for a free auto darken helm, welder cover, or a free spool gun. I opted for the spool gun. I ended up welding up a complete aluminum trailer for friend. All the free labor he needed for beers and he had to buy the consumables. By the end of that project I could mig just about any aluminum I needed.

Now I spend stupid time trying to tig weld aluminum beer cans end to end. Gotta love being retired at 47.

Glad you couldn't see the welds very well - hope they hold even though they look like blobs of splatter. I have a 110 mig welder and had a bad time getting decent results with it - first aluminum project.

            • On a more positive note, I didn't do this to my MC, but I did get something for it!

It could be worse... I've still got 5 feet of snow in my front yard

Thin aluminum is very difficult to learn. It I've got many pieces of scrap sitting in the back of shop that I wouldn't want anyone to see. It takes a LOT of practice to get good at this craft.

                      • I finished up installing the new tower on my 2002 star! Also pulled v drive to replace the leaking lower seal.

                          How'd that go?
I've often looked at mine and wondered how much of a pain in the a$$ it would be to pull the engine/transmission if I ever had to do so.

                          • Uncovered it again, sat in it, open the engine cover, checked it out, covered it up again and drank a beer

                            • I installed a Tune Trapper antenna. They say it is the best antenna and it can be hidden under fiberglass. It sounds better than no antenna that is for sure. Anyone out there have a Tune Trapper antenna?

                              • to remove v drive you must remove rear bench seat and the fiberglass center section, prop, and prop shaft, overall it wasnt that bad.

my boat looks naked, no windshield, no interior, no stereo, no swim platform, no v drive.... its getting a extreme boat makeover
