Thursday night we dropped the boat in the lake, it cranked right up, went out for about 1 1/2 hours with no issues. I killed the engine for about 1 minute then when I tried to restart, one click from the starter and that was it. Everything dead. I did a quick once over but nothing. Flagged a guy down and he towed us to the ramp. I bought the 2005 197 on June 2 and have put about 15 hours on it since with no issues. The seller said he thought the battery was a couple years old but wasn't sure. I pulled the battery and it visually looked OK but the month and date sticker wasn't marked. I took it to the Interstate Battery store by me and it check out as completely dead. The guy looked for the code on the case then looked at me and said "this battery was made in 2007!" I picked up a new Interstate and all is well. I feel stupid for not checking when I purchased but I also feel like I got every last drop from that battery and I may have set some sort of a record. Lesson learned.

I am sure 90% have held on to a battery a tad too long --- while your at it check the year on the tires --

I posted this in the Ilmor noise thread but since it was such a PITA problem with a quick fix I thought I'd re-post here as well.....
Reviving this old thread due to an issue I was helping out with as something just to be aware of if you start having a squeal that you can't seem to isolate.
We've ran into several annoying issues that you can pretty much expect on any new or used "new" boat. Most have been items that the PO inflected on himself and we're left cleaning up but this one caught me a bit off guard as I've only worked on PCM and Indmar marinized engines up to now. This is a new to the owner 2012 X2 with the 5.7 Ilmor. Anyway from day one we've been fighting a squeal that to me sounded like a dry bearing. Tried using water then WD40 to spray the idler and tensioner pulleys to isolate the problem. This seemed to work when I hit the tensioner but quickly came back. We decided to try some belt dressing to see if the belt was causing the problem and this seemed to do the trick, at least 90% of the noise had stopped.
We ordered a belt from the local MC dealer and almost fell over on the price ($70). We needed it for the weekend so we bought it, took it home and preceded to start the replacement. Couldn't see a thing on the front of the engine (and I thought my 07 X2 was bad) so I removed the air cleaner which gave me much better access then started to survey the area I'd be working in and to verify the position of the tensioner. When I grabbed the tensioner pulley I could feel a loose bolt head that had backed all the way out of the larger accessory bracket that the idler pulley, tensioner and water pump are mounted to. As it turns out this bolt was bouncing against the back side of the tensioner pulley causing all the noise. It was a PITA to get to but with the owner pulling the tensioner back I was able to tighten it up.
What a sleeper problem. The noise would come and go and as with most noises it was hard to pinpoint. Just glad I did that quick survey before pulling the belt. Also thought that if this had happened to us that we're probably not the only ones this might happen to so thought I'd post it up.
Found the place for fuel water filter - 10 microns - 90gph - also added a non slip pad for those times you need to nose into the dock step on boat and get away from the crazies on weekends
