  • My 2010 x-14v had the same problem , it was the relay to the pumps , problem was the relays for all the pumps are in 1 black box under the dash . New box fixed the problem.

    • water pump started to weep - so the mistress got a new one... nice to get a peak into the water jacket - also circulation pump was starting to throw some grease inside the pulley - 22 years on the OEM pump - nothing lasts

Nice work Mike. So much better to catch and replace the pump rather than to find the problem when the temp gauge pegs and your engine overheats.

Knowing and staying on top of your boats systems saves a ton of money, increases your days on the water, and greatly lessens the chance for days ruined by breakdowns.

I learned that the box/relay is very voltage sensitive. If your battery is questionable, get a new one.

          • New starter battery! Got 5 years out of it. Threw a voltage code last time out.
Question: on a 2 battery system. Starter battery shoots craps. Any harm from running jumper cables from the house battery over to crank the motor?

Separate the two banks before jumping. Otherwise, no harm.

I know my center ballast is filling so I disconnect it in back, plug it into first the port, then starboard side, proving all pumps are working as they would each turn on with the center tank switch.

I have no lights on my port or stbd fill/empty switches, and no power to pump...

I've read a bit about the black boxes inside the big black box where the breakers are.. anyone have luck replacing those things? wiring in that looks like a pain...

                      anyone deal with this?
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. I took my ballast pump off expecting to replace it but decided to plug it into my KGB electrical and it worked. I checked and then pulled my 20amp fuse off and temporarily wired my pump around my fuse and it worked again. I assumed it had to be my fuse even though it never popped so I bought a new one. In the meantime I wired the pump back through the old fuse and everything worked fine and still does. I cannot explain what happened but know I lost a few good hours on the lake because of it.
