Got the engine cover and back center section out - greased rudder and steering knuckle. Had a spot on the back that I guess I or We had scratched working on the course; sanded with 2000 wet, shurhold compound with Shurhold buffer/wool pad - then all the back got done; used Meguiars 205 on microfiber pad, followed by Wolfgang Swirl remover, followed by Wolfgang High Gloss Sealant. I'll wax it tomorrow. Also painted swim platform brackets. Moving the alternator is going to require a new raw water pump mounting bracket, just ordered that.

Got the lower thermostat section off and the water pump. See attached photos: the LT1 water pump has a "coupling" if you will which attaches to the spline on the pump and the spline off the gear of the engine. I hope PB blaster does it's job overnight. BTW, even though the pump was not making noise, when I rotated it by hand, it sounded like there were no bearings left after 28 years - guess that's not bad

Got the tall alternator mount off and will need a 2 9/16" spacer, plus lower bracket to get alternator mounted. Will also need a spacer off the other alternator bracket to set correct depth for raw water pump bracket arm. Got both plugs out of the heads, so the cooling update will get done the right way now that the tall alternator mount is gone. Not sure when they went to lower alternator but I wish I had had one rather than doing all this BUT, once it gets done it will be good.

So this moving the alternator turned out to be a way bigger issue than I imagined. NOW, the alternator does not seem to be putting out the correct voltage. However, if you have a 93, with the upper alternator crap, here are some details:
1. after removing all the hardware - you can get the upper alternator bracket from Bakes Marine - save the spacer for lower bracket. You will need a 2 9/16" spacer to line up the alternator later.
2. you can do the cooling update here.
3. you can get the raw water pump bracket online - several sources and then CUT the top bolt hole OFF, right in the middle (but not before marking the holes on a sourced bottom bracket #5) get the rubber bushing and get a washer large enough to cover the bottom of the bracket - let me verify the spacer here at 1 1/4" to get the raw water pump bracket to the correct distance needed to match the bottom of the pump for the retaining bolt.
4. You will have to pull the two wires out of the harness and splice/extend the purple wire. The orange will reach.
5. The back bracket - I found a hot rod alternator bracket, put the new water pump bracket on it and marked/drilled the holes. I made sure I had enough of the "machined opening" to move the alternator.
6. The back bracket will go on with one upper bolt, then the second bolt will add the spacer for the raw water pump bracket and proper length 3/8' bolt, flanged head if you can. You will need a 5/16" bolt/ washer/nut to go through the hot rod bracket or I did.
7. check alignment, take off hoses on raw water pump to get the belt (6PK829 or 0606325), pull the alternator to you and tighten down the old fashioned way.
My spacers were made by a friend, so BIG thank you there for turning those on a lathe!! The Bakes Marine spacer will be used to align the lower bracket with the new 5/16" bolt and will align the alternator correctly for the new belt.Last edited by bret; 04-13-2021, 08:30 PM.1993 25th Anniversary Limited ProStar 190, #17
